Does this problem occur only with the VT1000 attached to a Motorola router, or any router? I connected mine up, for the first time, last night, to a Netgear RP614v2 and everything stayed fine for the 6 hrs, I checked it.

Also, on the box, mine is technically listed as a VT1005. I dunno if this is a newer model or what. In the manual, they show a setting webpage. I wanted to see what they offered, with the settings, but I cannot access the page, even when not connected thru my router. It just times out.

I am using the motorola VT1005 router/ATA only. Have it connected to a motorola surfboard SB4220 cable modem, computer and single phone line. Very simple connections on my end.


Razz Still haven't had to reboot (21 hours!)... now I am getting excited that Vonage just might work out for me!!

My bad, I misunderstood what some people were saying. Some refered to the VT1005 as a router/ATA, where I thought they had gotten a seperate router, along with the VT1000 ATA.

I called my number just now and it seemed to ring for a while(about my set 20 seconds) before it went to voicemail. I cannot tell if it is ringing thru tho, as I am not home. I've had mine up and running since about 8pm EST last night.

For those having problems, how fast does it go into voicemail?

Cry I hooked up last week thru my Router, ISP is RoadRunner. After a few hours I could not make calls just get a fast busy signal. My incoming calls would then go right to voicemail. I would have to reboot the ATA to get it working again, and wait till the next time. This is annoying. After three e-mails and numerous phone calls to tech support. I was told " Can you please plug in your MTA directly from you RoadRunner modem,
instead of going into the router & then the MTA.
From the MTA PC port, you should connect an Ethernet cable into your
router . You will need to Disable DHCP on your regular router and let
MTA be your primary router.
Also make sure that MTA uses 90kbps of bandwidth. So if you do not
have enough left for your MTA, after having all your 3 computers using
the bandwidth you might run into this problem."
I tried this and it did not work. After another call the tech admitted that Vonage is having problems with the Motorola ATA and they are working on a fix as we speak He told me the temporary fix if you get the fast busy signal is to dial, 80#, wait five seconds, hang up and redial. This would eliminate the manual reboot. I am waiting for the service to go down again to try this. He assured me that the problem will be fixed. This seems to be only a problem with the Motorola's not the Cisco ATA's.

Cry my excitement didn't last long...had to reboot twice in the past hour.

I am not getting the fast busy, I just have no dail tone and no internet connection. Incoming calls go directly to voicemail, til I reboot again.
Tech would not admit to me that they were having a problem with new motorola box. Even when I told the guy to check out this forum and try telling me that again!
Anyone thinking uploading/downloading might have something to do with this? Concidering bandwidth issues.

Hmm, I was still up and running. My wife just called me on it and didn't have any problems(except forgetting to dial 1 then the number).

She did reboot it after that, so we could try out the diffferent codecs. We have settled on 90(since 50 was giving us popping and 30 sounded like a bad cell phone), even tho we have only 128k upload. So the unit will stay powered up, at the 90k codec, for a while, so I will check in tomorrow and let you all know if it's still up and running.

FYI, I have Charter Pipeline at 2Mb down/128k up, using a Bestdata brand cable modem and my VT1000 is plugged directly into port 4 of my Netgear RP614v2 router.

registrations on our service and should now be functioning properly."
...that was from tech support.

AND...mine has been stable for around 11 hours now...

Im not so sure we are all having the same issue though...My problem has been only with inbound calls going straight to VM (every 3 hours or so), with a reboot of the MTA fixing it..
Just so ya know my setup...I have a motorola vt-1005v, plugged directly into a surfboard modem... I was previously plugged into my Linksys AP/router, but at the request of tech support bypassed it. With port forwarding setup right on the Linksys I dont suspect it has any bearing on the issues at hand, so once I can establish stability with their service I will reconnect the MTA thru the Linksys.
I have yet to have issues with outbound calling, hence my suspicion we all may not have the same issue.
I'll let you guys know if mine stays stable, and I am curious if it fixes more than just me, so please keep posting.... Twisted Evil

Lol It has been about 6 hours without a reboot using the Motorola ATA. So far so good. Lets hope it stays this way!
Configuration: ISP RoadRunner Cable Modem->Speed Stream 2624 Router->Motorola ATA. Upload 360KB/Download 2050KB.

First off thanks all for providing this information. You've given me more support than Vonage support, with the last two support people bouncing me around, and me wasting my evening waiting for help. Next time I will take down their name.

So, I just signed up Friday 14Nov2003. Every single day, I have had to reboot my VT1005V because

A. Incoming calls
- would either go directly to voice mail -or-
- I'd hear a fast busy signal

B. Outbound calls
- would hear dial tone but after dialing only silence
- would not hear any dial tone
- would hear dial tone but after dialing would get fast busy signal

Vonage support has done NOTHING and I still have an open ticket with no update. My setup relies on NYC Time Warner Cable's RoadRunner and consists of

a. Toshiba PCX1100 cable modem
b. Linksys BEFSR41 4 port switch/router
c. Motorola VT1005V connected to a port on the Linksys

- I've enabled UDP port forwarding between ports 1 and 20,000.
- I've set the DHCP lease time to the maximum (34,463 minutes)

Still nothing, I've had to reboot the VT1005V approximately every six hours. I will test the service again in the morning NY time.

Please post your experience so we can hammer Vonage. I mean, what the hell? Is this how a new customer gets treated?

I have the Cisco ATA and I am having all the same problems. Straight to voicemail, fast busy when i dial out ect. I forward ports and put the ATA in my DMZ, no luck
