I am still waiting for the phone adopter replacement and just curious about experiances of those with Optima Online(Cablevision) + Vonage. They are big competitors as far as Voip goes. Optima is known for suffering lately from network overload and famous for throttling back downstream lately. Any comments? |

It is Optimum, not Optima and they have treated me just fine for many years. I have them in my home and my office.
The throttling back only comes to you if you host a webserver, VERY heavy P2P action or a FTP site, which are against their TOS.
One phone call gets you back to speed with a warning. |

Sorry for using nickname for Optimum
Well, i am aware about throttlinng down, because i actually got in trouble once and as you described, got off with the warning. But that was throttling down upstream to 154kbps.
Lately, and that actually created some serious waves at their (optimum) forum... people were complaining about download speed dropping big time once downloading something or uploading...and going back to normal as activity stops. And i`m not talking going down a bit... i saw it going from 9 mbps to 400kbps as i was downloading game update it was doing fine first 10 min...and then took huge drop. Once download finished... it went back up within 3-5 min - to 9mbps. |

The sql db for this site is huge. I pull it down and push it back out to a secure server 4 times a day. Never an issue, on the phone the whole time, from home and on the business account.
Ask RickNY over on their forum (an OOL employee), he will tell you. You will be fine. OOL is the best ISP in the country, maybe only just now becoming second best to the new Verizon fiber service. |
