PostPosted: Mon Mar 21, 2005 2:14 pm    Post subject: virtual to physical number conversion -- coming soon? Reply with quote Back to top

Have several physical Vonage lines in two area codes (I''m a commuter) and just added a virtual line in another area code. See on the Vonage site it's currently possible to convert physical numbers to virtual numbers without much trouble but have been told by vonage staff that they can't convert virtual to physical -- something I would want if I were to move to the area code where I have the virtual number.

Curious as to why the physical-to-virtual switch is easy but the reverse switch is currently not feasible and if there's a timeframe for when it will be feasible.

I'm in need of the same thing. I would like to swap around my current 718 main number with a 650 virtual number. I spoke to one service rep, who said it couldn't be done.

It can be done-- we swapped the main/virtual numbers on a line several months ago-- but they charged us the $10 fee for setting up a new number (even though it was just rotating the two existing numbers).

I'll agree. It can be done. The only reason why Vonage charges to do this is the activation fee. What we have to do is changed the primary and make it voicemail only so we keep it active, but not usable on the account. Next we do the virtual to physical change. Once the virtual is a physical, we have the Tier 3 agents removed the dummy line and make the old physical a virtual. The only reason why this is so complicated, and the only viable reason why, is to be able to pull a few extra dollars out of existing customers. That's about it. It should be a simple switch inside out applications, but it's not because it makes sense.
