I bought the Null Modem Cable from 9th Tee Using a USB to serial converter cable.
I have tried everything possible. I followed http://www.b-lan.com/otto/tivo3xp/
It dials fine, but never connects....I am at a total loss..can anyone give me some tips. Things I have done. Verified all settings Changed mdmhayes.inf tried all different speeds, along with the ,#2xx to go along with the different speeds. Enabled guest account used my account disabled local fiewall disabled linksys firewall tried static IPs in connection out of my DHCP range, in my DHCP range Used DHCP tried changing COM ports added static IP to my DMZ
I see garbage in the Hyperterminal, but not what the link tells me I should see.
I have WInXP Home connecting Via Wireless to linksys
Thanks to anyone that can help me |

what error is the Tivo giving you? Did you delete the file that is created when you save a new modem file? I cannot remember the name, but look for a file with the same name and a different extension. |

yeah..I even copied a fresh copy of the mdmhayes.inf and the .pnf file to be sure, went through the process again. It tells me that it failed and service is not answering. I see the hyperterminal garbage, but not the ~ thingy....
Im getting ready to Void my warranty and make it work like TIVO Should |

That's very odd since I had no problem along with all the others in this group. I have to lean toward something small that you are overlooking in the instructions. Also, I had an issue with one of mine and it wouldn't connect. I waited a few hours, tried again and boom it connected just fine. If you are sure your settings are correct just wait a bit and try it again. |

I too am having problems getting the connection to work. I see garbage in telnet, but not what I am supposed to see. I did notice the directions had the mdmhayes.inf file in c:\windows\inf, and on my laptop it is in C:\I386. How do I know it is the file being used? My laptop does not even have a windows\inf folder. Any help? |

OK, so I found in inf folder in windows (it was hidden). Now when I attempt to connect, I see the garbage stuff in hyperterminal. When I look at the log, I see an error 20 opening the device. I have no idea..... |

I finally got it to work. Restored the mdmhayes.inf file, then added the new lines, and at 115,200, the connection worked. Bye-Bye comcast digital phone line, I can relax and stick with Vonage. |

I got mine to work too, but I had to bring another PC into the picture. I was trying all this time with a USB to Serial cable...not gonna happen...Something about it DirecTivo and Tivo in general do not like... Now I have to come up with a long time solution
So as a reminder.....DO not try the USB to Serial adapter.....unless you want to drive your self MAD |
