Ok, today this problem I have posted about before happened again, this time i have more details. I made a call to a friend that has land based carrier, when they didn't answer, I got an answering machine that was not theirs. I called them back, they said that they just had a wrong number but it showed up on their caller ID as my number. This has happened to me before, twice to be exact, both times to my father. This time it was not to him. He doesn't have caller ID either to give me that particular information. he has Verizon, my friends today have Conestoga. Calls are placed in and called to Pennsylvania. All calls were to numbers within a 7 mile radius. Please, I hope someone else has seen this, or knows of a solution. Even though this has happened only 3 times, I have been a Vonage member for only 2 months. Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, you have the same phone number as the other person with the answering machine. This is why it shows up as your number. You can ask Vonage for another number, live with it, and/or call customer service to see what they have to say about it.

You are not the only person who has told this story. I think it is just a mix up in phone numbers. Call Customer Service.

Thanks, but that is not the problem. I have my original phone number from my land line, and never had that problem before. My phone number is unique. If someone else had that phone number, this problem would have happened alot more than 3 times in 2 months. Thanks for the reply.

So no one else has experienced this particular quirk? Its really strange as explained above, however I do have my original number, now transferred for almost a month, so I do not believe anyone else has my same number, and I do not have a virtual number. thanks for any new responses.

its possible that its a routing issue ... but i've never heard of it like that before ... i've heard of calls not completing but never crossing over like that ... not exactly sure why that would happen but it could be something with the service on the line that needs to be fixed

Im not sure if it is a routing issue or not. It seems like myself and another party (all 3 times were not the same other party involved, as we got 3 different answering machine messages all with different names) were making outgoing calls, the party connected with the party I was calling, and I connected with their answering machine because they were getting my party . Strange indeed. Still got no other responses, was hoping more people have had or heard of this.

Not much we can do about it, and i'll explain. Lets say your friend has Verizon, and his landline number is 123-456-7890. I can signup for a Vonage account, telling it I want to transfer a phone number, and input yours. So if you try to call your friend and you have Vonage, its going to go to me because it always completes on the Vonage to Vonage side. And if he makes an outbound call, your friends # shows up on the caller ID. No way around this, i THINK this is what your talking about. Hope that helps.

I dont think that is my issue. My number is my number I have had for 4 years now. this happend and happens before and after my number ported. I place a call to another party, in different cases I either get someone elses answering machine that I did not call, or the call while ringing just stops ringing. This has happened 6 times now, all calls to different partys. When I call the party again, they have all told me that they just received a wrong number call with my number on the caller ID. From talking to my callers, each time has been a different party, not the same person. Example: The 4 times I did get another persons answering machine, it was a different one each time. It seems like at times whe I make a call, my call switches to their line, and they were attempting an outside call at the same time, and they get my party. Since they are on the phone themselves, I get their answering machine. Hope you cann all follow that. Its strange, I dont get it, its a little annoying, wish someone had a solution. if you need more answers, please let me know. Thanks again for the responses, hope there are more!
