If you buy that unit it will not work here in the UK, unless you are one of the very few people who are on the ADSL2 trials. You will be able to get something suitable for about 30 quid from ebay or even your local dixons/pc world |

Well I managed to get it all working today by making the SMC a dumb modem(a modem). It worked absolutletly perfect for about 1 hour to my mother. Then I went to work and came back and now all I get is distortion.I can hear every other half second of conversation at best.Befroe it was immaculate!! I then went into the voice mail and set that up(quality of call immaculate)....now all I get when I try to goto voice mail(have been in 3 times fine) is the same as the calling!
What can I do? Can I change some settings? Is there a list of best settings somewhere for my model of linksys?
p.s. when I call the parents...they can hear me crystal clear!! |

Something else ive noticed is that when I type in the numbers into the handset...they also dont sound right(the same as a normal phone...and yes its on tone). I dialed into *123 about 20 times until I could understand what she was saying and it was crystal clear again!.
Please help dconnor |

i presume you are based in the UK?
Vonage only sells one product in the UK, RT31P2, wired router. it only works if you an ethernet based modem not a USB modem. you will need an ethernet modem.
Some people will recommend buying a USB-ethernet adapter. They do not do what you want it to do and you will waste money.
Buy an inexpensive ethernet modem or even combination router/modem (eg Gateway product from linksys) and simply plug your Vonage router into and volia, bob's your uncle!
you will be up and running in no time with no quality problems |

Hi Jamesm
I already have a SMC router/modem....and its far from OK. Ive just tried another internet package and also tried another phone aswell.
The Vonage Voip test says I have enough bandwidth for 4 connections! |

its not clear what your setup is. have you scrapped the usb modem and are you now using an ethernet modem with or without router + the Vonage router?
if you have a usb modem IT WILL NOT WORK nor will any supposed adapter. you must have ethernet modem.
which ISP are you using and which model of modem? |

Ive scrapped the USB modem and I'm using a SMC router/mosem with NAT and firewall disabled. This is connected to the linksys(model number above).
Perhaps I havent been very clear but im using this in Thailand(others have NO problems AT ALL!)and have upgraded to there SME package.
Are there some setting I need to tweak when using a long didtace away?
I can use this perfectly before8am and after 8pm...ish.
I know im going to encounter more problems while using over here but others have NO problems |

Sorry I do not mean to hijack your thread, actually I sent a PM to Dan but for some reason it will not leave my outbox, so here goes:
I was wondering if you could help me pertaining to this thread:
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic4571.html
I have a similar setup, it comes from the modem to the PC as USB only. You reccomended a hub of some sort that would essentially split the signal amongst the usb and also add an Ethernet out.
Did I understand that correctly?
If so would you be so kind as to link me to one or two so I can get an idea of what I am to be shopping for so I can hit up google from there?
Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! |
