Well, finally received my RT31P2 today and full of hopes started tearing up network hehe. Basically setting it up like this:
https://www.vonage.com/images/installation_router_adapter.gif
After 2-3 hours of trying i could not get my main router to see RT31P2 .. i decided , ok i`ll try it without anything... just modem->RT31P2 -> phone+PC... tried setup... no go, can`t find router. Called tech support, couple of hours going from one person to another... last tech(the real deal) that i spoke to declares : RT31P2 is faulty. Basically it`s not responding. I noticed from the beginning that power led is blinking all the time... and mentioned to first 3 support people. But i guess it`s like a ladder, last person that you talk to is a real tech hehe. So that meant something to him i guess. Well, no soup for me for at least 5 more days till replacement arrives.
In the mean time... i have a question. Is there any kinds of special steps to do setup like this:

With setup Cable Modem->BEFSR81 router->RT31P2 adopter? Or it`s more like plug and play kind of deal?
Thanks in advance. |

I have a D-Link wireless router set-up, and after three days of trying everything you did, I simply set the Vonage router back to factory defaults, plugged it in to my wireless router, and it was good to go. Phone service works great and it doesn't seem to have any effect on the internet connection to my computer. I found a lot of information in these forums that was very helpful. |

When you first plug the router in, it will connect to the Internet and will start updating its firmware and other settings. THIS WILL TAKE A LONG TIME. during this time, the power LED will blink. If you interrupt this process in ANY WAY (such as picking up the receiver of a connected phone or turning the device off out of frustration) the router will BREAK and not work.
The router seems pretty flimsy to me, but perhaps you didn't wait long enough the first time you plugged it in? It took mine a little more than 5 minutes to finish downloading stuff before the power and Line 1 phone light lit steady.
I actually believe this issue causes the majority of the problems some new users get with their devices. I know a lot of techies out there don't RTFM and they get frustrated when the power LED is still blinking after a minute or so |

I waited at least 10-15 min with no success...light kept blinking... but even then, i agree with you that router seems pretty flimsy if this is the case. I did reset it to factory defaults....no success yet. I guess i`ll stand by till thursday or friday. |

You have the adapter after your D-Link router? I have a D-Link 614+ and I was considering putting it after my router but everything I read says not to. |

I have the D-Link 624. I just plugged the Vonage router into one of the ports and it seems to work fine. I had seen that suggestion somewhere on these forums. Everything else I was trying was messing up my internet connection. At one point I had eliminated the DLink router and was trying the Vonage router alone but my internet connection kept dropping. I haven't yet tried talking on the phone while doing some downloading or uploading on the computer. I'll give that a try this week. |
