I just signed up for Vonage for my business which is a mortgage company. I have 8 lines and to free fax lines. My question is that will my comcast enhanced business service would be enough to handle that number of lines. Comcast service handles Connection Speeds: Up to 6.0 Mbps* downstream and 768 kbps* upstream? |

probably should have looked into this beforehand, but anyway, you need to consider things like will they all be in use at one time? what bandwidth saver option will you be using? (30kbps, 50 or 90) a quick and dirty count would be 10 lines (that was 2 fax lines right?) at 90kbps so 900kbps which is more than you can handle. this test will also be helpful: http://www.vonage-forum.com/voip-speed-test.html it will tell you about how many 90kbps lines you can have.
I assume all won't be in use at once though, and my guess is that speed test will tell you you can handle about 6-7 lines, 8 max but probably not.
edit: in addition, make sure you don't have a toshiba pcx1100 cable modem with comcast. you should also run a test or 10 at testyourvoip.com, detailed results. note the packet loss and discards especially. |
