I have just installed a Linksys WRT54GP2 Wireless Router. I have broadband access through Cox Cable. The modem doesn't have a brand name shown only a model number of U10C018. It has a trade name listed as Ambit. I have internet access through the router but no phone service. Phone Lights 1 and 2 blink 3 or 4 times rapidly and then a couple of slow blinks. I was on the phone for almost 2 hrs with Vonage to no avail. I have tried many of the suggestions listed here in the forums and have thus far had no luck.
My MAC # from the router is the same as the one Vonage has on file. I can tftp Vonage and the results are good. I ran a trace route to the Vonage site but of course it timed out before getting there.
I am at a total loss as to what to do and hope to find some answers here. I am to the point of giving up on Vonage and trying another Voip but the expense I have laid out for the equipment holds me back.
Thanks in advance! |

If your modem from your provider is a router also you need to set it to bridge mode first. Look into that ... |

another interesting one. I've never heard of the phone lights blinking in that kind of succession. can you access the status page at http://192.168.15.1 and click refresh really fast while they're blinking? not sure if it will help but you might see some type of error message. |

I tried that to no avail. I only get a balnk page. It isn't hard to refresh while they are flashing either. They never seem to stop.
And the succession is 3 fast 2 slow 3 fast pause then all over again if it helps.
I was hoping it would be something very simple but alas no such luck. |

did you ever notice the power light blinking? I would probably do this reset (for lack of any other ideas): unplug power, unplug phone cords, push and hold reset button, plug power back in while holding reset button, keep holing reset button for 15 seconds after powering back on. keep an eye on the power light, and don't plug the phones back in (or power the box off) until it stops blinking. |

I tried that too. I read that suggestion from one of your previous posts. I have scoured the site pretty good before posting. I guess maybe I should get back on the cell with Vonage. Thanks for your time though. |

May I suggest that you reseat the RJ-11 jacks at the back of the router. While you're at it, reseat the RJ-45's as well. You'll know that the connection is good when you hear the characteristic CLICK when insertion is complete.
Now, reset the WRT54 by inserting a small pointed object, a pen will do, into the reset button on the rear. Hold it in for several seconds. Now, wait for the router to recycle completely. The telephone ATA's are the last to be done. Wait until they stop blinking and only "Phone 1" remains lit and not blinking (assuming you only have one phone). This should take several minutes to complete.
You must have a dial tone at this point. If not, it's got nothing to do with your broadband service unless it's down.
Just for the record: http://www.vonage.com/help_knowledgeBase_article.php?article=458&category=47
The Dial Tone is generated by the ATA within the router. It has nothing to do with Ethernet, WAN ports, etc. If you still have no dial tone at this point, I suggest you return it to the vendor.
Also, pay close attention to Reebok's suggestion, above, as well. |

I'm having similar problems with a Linksys RT31P2 router. Can't access http://192.168.15.1, but can get online. Have spent multiple hours on the phone with Vonage and they can't be nicer...or less helpful. I'm not that technically proficient, yet am willing to try anything as my setup used to work until they did a code upgrade and insisted that I use a replacement router... just can't get the new one to work. Thanks for any help. |
