I just received my ATA last night and hooked up the Vonage service. I am trying this as a second phone line for now on a trial basis, but I would love to get this working nicely so I can get rid of the price-gouging SBC monopoly on my home phone.
I have the ATA connected to one of the ports on my Linksys 8-port cable router. I have cable modem service from Cable America in Maryland Hts, MO. When I dialed up the voicemail to set it up and test it out, the audio was extremely choppy. I recorded my voicemail greeting and it sounded horrible on playback like everything else. When I called my Vonage line from my landline, my v-mail greeting was crystal clear. I ran several tests last night between my Vonage line and various landlines & cell phones. The phone talking to the Vonage has perfect sound. The Vonage however, is very choppy to listen to. I ran the Vonage speed test and it shows my connection at 450K down & 330K up. Don't know why reception is so choppy. Anyone have any ideas? |

I don't have any great answers for you, but I here's a couple things I'd try to see if it made any difference: 1. Try plugging the ATA directly to your cable modem, leaving all other equipment disconnected. I'm thinking that maybe your router isn't giving the ATA enough bandwidth. 2. Try plugging a different phone into the ATA. It may be possible that the phone you are using doesn't like working with the ATA device real well.
I know, both of these things are longshots, but they're easy enough to try... |
