I am still shopping both of these phones; the reviews for each are awesome. Within these forums, the Uniden seems to be the phone-of-choice, but my wife likes the Motorola more...given the difficulty of finding cheap MD61 add-on handsets for the Motorola, I am now leaning toward the Uniden...

I could, however, get the Motorola for under $40, so it's a tough call...hoping you guys will make it for me with compelling arguments Smile

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

I think you go with whichever one you find least hideous.

What are these multihandset phone manufacturers thinking? There is not a single room in my house where a silver or silver/black handset is going to look attractive.

It sure looks pretty in the store, like some high end piece of stereo equipment you'll stick in a cabinet, but this is a phone and it has to sit out somewhere and be unobtrusive.

Now, get me a multihandset phone designed by the guys who did the iPod, that I'll buy.

Sorry, I guess I'm not much help.

Maybe I haven't discovered my metrosexual side as of yet, but I care more about how it performs than how it looks Smile

Make sure the Motorola does 5.8GHz in both directions. My friend bought a Vtech 5.8GHz system, and turns out it only uses 5.8GHz to receive, and it uses 2.4GHz to transmit. So while he can hear everyone else perfectly, sometimes they can't hear him at all when his wireless network or his microwave or whatever screws with his cordless phone.

Apparently that's fairly common on 5.8GHz phones, so check the specs first just to be sure.

And to his very valid point, I own the Uniden and from what I understand the Motorola doesn't do 5.8 both ways, but the Uniden does.

I called Motorola support last week (1-800-353-2729) because I had this very question and the girl told me that it WAS 5.8 in both directions. She said they get alot of calls about it.

Why they don't just put it on the web is beyond me.

Also, presumably because of the 5.8 handset to base, the battery life is 7 hours as opposed to some of the others that are 2.4 or 900 that have battery life of 8-11 hours according to consumer reports.

That's what I am assuming, too...many of the Amazon reviews state the same thing, as well as other review sites...guess I am leaning toward the Uniden now Smile I do like the $35 price on that bad motorola mamma jamma, though.

I just went to lookup both phones and boy, I am not impressed with the Motorola. I hate the looks of it, although that's not where I would base my decision. But still...ouch!

The Uniden handsets supposedly have awesome speakerphone capabilities, as well as direct connect between handsets--that would be an extremely useful feature in our house. They say you can even take two of them to the mall or into the woods and use them like walkie-talkies. Interesting idea at least.

So far I love my Uniden. i researched a lot and Uniden phones came out on top. Mine is a 2 line up to 10 handsets, no voicemail and it works fine with Vonage.

Good luck.
