Ok, after reading posts sometime ago about this I'd like to have the conversation in one thread, so we can exchange comments about this.

How good are the calls when people originate them with Vonage Voip equipment outside the US?

I'm using this device from Chile. Quality is good the majority of times, although it **** at afternoon. Get's really choppy although the PAP2 has his own public IP and all ports available (doesn't go though any router) and 512kbps for just itself. Thanks to Murphy, I receive an important call just when this happens, and it's very annoying.. makes me want to throw this thing right out of the window.

Anymore folks out there using it from overseas?

I use a Motorola VT1005v in Bangkok . It was working very well from Oct-Dec 2004. Since Jan my calls have been very choppy (unusable) but I'm pretty sure my biggest issue is the broadband provider. This was diagnosed bu reebok in this forum. Thanks reebok!

I am currently trying to switch from 2560/512 residential ADSL to 2048/512 business account in hopes of getting a better quality connection with less packet loss, packet discards and latency. I should have results by next week.

Incidentally, I also have a PAP2 in the USA on a 1025/512 which has worked flawlessly since it was first plugged in ~Dec 2004. That unit has never had a poor quality call and is used as an extra line for local and long distance. I'm quite sure this is largly due to the high quality vDSL connection to the internet.

I suggest you try these speed tests:

EDIT: Now all is well for 24 hours connected to a business account. I guess the priority changes for the business users as I have not had a bad connection for Voip in this 24hour period at all. Very different than my residential grade account but this may be a local thing. -JD

I've used mine in Australia and USA (overseas for me)with no real issues apart from when the bb is oversubscribed.

The incredible travelling Vonage is off to Bahrain, Dubai and Italy in April, then Spain, France and Germany in May.

Hi:

I've used my PAP2 in Saudi Arabia with a 256/128 DSL and it works fine. Just have to ensure that the children are not browsing when making a call. QoS on the uplink would be useful.

Have also used in Philippines on 384/256, works fine

Has anybody used Vonage in Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

We have been in France for about 1 year, and for 3 weeks now, we can not get a dial tone, even though all our computers work just fine. We can see that the port it is trying is 192.168.2.22 by dialing the "08#" option after holding down the red liight on the Vonage box. It seems our port 192.168.2.22 is being blocked from our provider Wanadoo. They deny it and make us pay for even asking for information about it.
Does anyone know how to go around this? Is it a fire wall issue? What can we do in our settings to go around it.?

WE are using a SpeedTouch modem for the Cable Modem. It is networked to the Belkin router, where we have plugged in the Vonage Then we have a wireless Airport Express plugged into the Belkin for the computers. It was working so beautifully for months..!
We welcome any and all information on making it work again.

Have you used the testing tool at http://www.testyourvoip.com/ ?
If you are passing it through a router, please leave the Vonage box into DMZ, so it can have direct access to the internet... Maybe you haven't mapped the correct ports on your router configuration

Thanks for responding to this problem we are having.
when you say leave the Vonage box in the DMZ... I think I have it there. On the Belkin router, we have the menu DMZ and the window shows (it is in french so it is a little challenging) IP static 81.251.46.194 then IP private I have 192.168.2.22 and we have it selected to be active.
It does pick up this IP address but that is as far as it is going right now.

And we have checked our online speed with that link it shows we have enough bandwidth.

What else could it be?

I don't know the Belkin configuration interface, but on the DMZ config you should see only one field where you have to enter the private (LAN) IP address of the device that you wanna place onto DMZ.

the DHCP list shows you the devices that are connected to the router: their name, MAC address and assigned IP.
You say 192.168.2.22 is the IP that's been asigned to the pap2, so that's the only IP you should enter into the DMZ box.
