ok, Just got off the phone with them and I could barley understand what he was saying. All he did was say to unplug my router and wait a few seconds, then plug it back in. I did that, and it is still not working. He said to wait for some time and i should have phone. Im still confused. Rolling Eyes Anyone else have any suggestions?

Probably was never configured, as Reebok suspected. You found the right guy to help you out, especially over AIM.

Very cool that you went the extra mile, Reebok. That's an example of this forum at its best.

I'm setting up a friend's RT31P2. Lights solid including phone line 1 but no dial tone.

Planet ADE-4000 ADSL Modem Router->Linksys RT31P2->Line1 Phone

tftp tftp.vonage.net get test result is okay

firmware version 1.25.00
Voice Version 2.0.12 (L1)
Line 1 status is online and shows correct phone number
call1 status idle
call2 status idle

Line 2 status offline

Phone wire checked and works on other adapter. Phone obviously okay too. Rebooted twice.

Any ideas or help appreciated.

Very strange for sure.

I wonder if I update the firmware version to 1.27 it may help...? I sent a PM to ssantana for this.

This is a new account for my friend. I don't exactly know what he did so far when attempting to get it started himself but I suppose there is a slight possibility he plugged the power supply into 230vAC instead of 110vAC. If that was the case, I'm not sure what the ~24vDC would have done to the Linksys device when it is expecting 12vDC... but me thinks it should be less operational than what I currently see.

I hope he doesn't need a new device. Getting these things to Thailand in another relative/friends luggage is no easy task in itself. Unfortunatelly my existing Vonage account is too choppy to call tech support in the hours I am awake. Will try later...

I had no dial tone on my phone lines but finally called customer service. I didnt wait all that long for a human. It took some time and I had to be transferred to a technician to do some line testing but it works fine now. One glitch today when I think the 1.27 firmware update got pushed through. I had to power down and back up again to get the phone back.

The technician told me not to use the CD to set up the router.

before the service call I had to start up my sbc/yahoo dsl connection software in order to get an interent connection. Now I dont have to do that Smile internet speed tests a tad quicker 1.2 downloads previously now hitting 1.3 consistently Smile

Sound quality seemed fine when I was talking to a friend tonight until the modem reset and cut us off.

I am looking forard to cutting my landline to an absolute minimum w/only caller id for incoming calls and using Vonage for all my outgoing calls and business/fax. yes it is a business account.

Okay, now have a much more stable ADSL connection from the local ISP after changing from res to business service. Still no dial tone but at least I can call Vonage from another account/router.

For the record: The Linksys RT31P2 "light was on but nobody home" problem described in my previous post was resolved by a very competent customer service dude. The problem was with inability of this factory version of the firmware (seen on the web interface as 1.25 by me was seen by the rep as version 1.28 ). The rep sent it 1.26.01 instead and after a reboot or two there was the first dial tone on this box. Good.

The whole process took about 35 min (30 of which was with the rep) and I used my own Vonage phone line to talk via the same network. For reasons I am not convinced are to do with internet quality of service alone, the RT31P2 timed-out when trying to get the upgrade automatically.

This whole issue seems kind of strange but I guess my point here is the customer service reps (who generally get slammed pretty hard in this forum) are not all the same in their amount of knowledge of the system. This guy knew what he was doing. In contrast, the one I spoke to yesterday truly sounded as if she was actually sleeping between reboots and had no better ideas than to send one version of the firmware update. Sometimes you get a good rep and sometimes not.

In any case, I have a Motorola VT1005v and a Linksys RT31P2 working on one ADSL line in Bangkok with crystal clear voice up and down on both at the same time and that is indeed a good thing. Cool
