wow there's a lot of stuff in this post

first - you can change a voice line to fax and a fax line to voice ... but only certain departments (not general) have the ability to do this (one of these is cancellations)

second - you should get a persons name and id number ... its available for a reason ... just as you should be able to speak to the customer service rep as another human being ... not a verbal punching bag

third - as in every other job, there are people who will work hard and do an excellent job and are proud of their work and those who do a minimum and slide by ... everyone who has a job knows people in each of these catagories (and there's too many and's in that thought)

fourth - CSRs have restrictions in their ability to issue credits .. these restrictions come from management ... if a CSR cannot help you then politely ask for someone who can ... there are NOT always available supervisors to take calls for customers but one can eventually be found if the problem can not be resolved

fifth - being put on hold depends on the rep ... sometimes i'm sure it does mean the rep is taking a break or getting dinner ... but other times its so the caller doesn't hear dead silence or typing while the rep is handling the issue

sixth - i'm glad that this forum is here ... it allows a little more discussion between people and not bashing one way or the other

suprmanjoe is absolutely right. It was a matter of getting a hold of the right department.

But it looks like all of my pathetic pleas and outright begging have finally resulted actual honest to goodness service on the part of Vonage. My lines are being flip-flopped.

Accomplishing this from a technical standpoint did turn out to be a lot more involved than I had imagined. I can see that someone is going into my account, putting in place holder numbers and then switching the numbers around. That is a lot of employee time to spend on one crying customer, so I am appreciative, and I do understand why you really need to beg.

Let me thank everyone on this board for their assistance.

kenn10, mbhn5204, DarKev, and otaku definitely helped set my attitude straight. (OK, so did our friendly moderator dconner by cutting off some unwarranted rants).

But I think a special thanks goes out to ToddlerTN. I actually plagiarized some of his comments like, “I keep hearing that Voip can do so many things the telephone companies can't do. But when I got my landline, I could pick my number from a list or change it at no charge…” I think that was really effective once I got in touch with the higher ups. Thanks!

Anyway, I’m a very happy camper.

Dan's right.

There really are some great resources in here for people in need. All you need to do is clearly articulate your problem.

You will get help from one or many....

Once again, kudos to Dan C. and the staff for running a first class Forum, and a great sidebar to all things Vonage!! Strong

Yes, this forum is excellent and contains a wealth of information.

How about this scenario. You have a Vonage line and you are happy with it, but you also have a line with a different telephone provider. You want to save some money, so you decide to get rid of the other line, but you would like to keep the number. You would like to have this number added to your Vonage account as a virtual number.

Vonage will not port virtual numbers. I'm not sure why not. They will, however, add the number as LINE 2 on your adapter, but the cost per month is more than double the cost of a virtual number, and then you have the inconvenience of requiring phones with 2 lines on them. Or two separate phones - one for each line. It is a shame that LNP is not available to virtual numbers. I will bet a lot of customers would be willing to pay extra just to get the number they want as a virtual number. It could be an additional source of income for Vonage, and would defintely be a good gesture in the eyes of customer service.

Just a thought!

DarKev:

There are most likely some sort of regulatory or technical or money reasons why that is not possible in the USA, let alone wherever you are.

As usual, it mostly gets down to a matter of cost.

My guess is money reasons. Voip is not regulated (at least not at this time).

It is likely financial reasons and perhaps it was an oversight when designing the system in the first place. Maybe the system is incapable of it at this time.
