Post subject: Im switching to VONAGE!
Hello,
Im new to the forums and I am just wanting introduce myself as a new
Vonage
Client. I am so happy that I am switching from my current
Voip
Provider Packet8. I was a loyal client to Packet8 for almost 2 years now and I still can't believe the nerve of Packet8 lately.
Here is what I am talking about:
Dear Valued Packet8 Customer,
Subject: Plan Change to Business 2000 - Exceeding Normal residential Usage
This email is in regard to the usage on your Packet8 account. According to our
records, you are using minutes that exceed what we deem to constitute personal
residential usage. In accordance with our terms and conditions, 8x8 will be
switching you to the Business 2000 plan as of April 1, 2005. Please see section
10 of the terms and conditions included below, addresses excessive usage of the
Packet8 service.
Please contact us to update your Packet8 account or notify us of your desire to
terminate service effective April 1 2005. If you do not contact us you will
automatically be converted to the Business 2000 Plan effective April 1 2005.
Details on the Business 2000 Plan are available at:
[ADMIN EDIT]
Business 2000 includes 2000 minutes of calling time in the US and Canada and
an industry low $.029 afterwards
We appreciate your business and look forward to continuing service for you.
Regards,
Packet8 Billing Department
Receivables@packet8.net
Above is the reason I am switching from Packet8 immediately. Even though they advertise "UNLIMITED" usage of their residential service plan, I think people should think otherwise of that bologne. There is nonthing unlimited about it if "they" have the sole right to switch you at their convience to a more expensive plan whenever they deem necessary.
For the past few months, I have been using 10,000 + Minutes a month on my residential plan (for personal use) and I didn't see it as "abuse" of their
Voip
service because I was NOT using it for business purposes or anything else for that matter that would constitute breaking their terms of use.
I look at this as being insane for me to dare think about staying with Packet8 and continuing my service with them because of the EXTREME costs now.
Their Business 2000 plan comes with 2000 anytime minutes within the US and Canada with every minute after that billed at a rate of .029 afterwards. ISNT THAT CRAZY! Who do they think I am?
10,000 Minutes a Month (my monthly usage)
Subtract 2000 = 8,000
8,000 x $0.029 = $232.00 a MONTH!!!
So, I called
Vonage
last night and will now offically become a
Vonage
Subscriber! YAY!
Buyers Beware of Packet8 (Unlimited = JOKE)

Terms of Service Section 1.2.1
Quote:
Vonage
reserves the right to immediately terminate or modify the Service, if
Vonage
determines, in its sole discretion, that Customer's Service is being used for non-residential or commercial use.
Have you talked to
Vonage
about what they consider "unlimited" for residential usage?

Yes. I don't think
Vonage
will let you slide with 10,000 minutes per month either. 167 hours of talk in a month is beyond excessive for residential use.

Wow! Thanks for the info. I would certainly be boiling mad if I were you. Now I have some real good stuff to give to my friends that are considering Packet8. Nasty businesses tend to lose more customers than they gain in the long run.
Welcome to

10,000 minutes? wow...
how can you spend over 5 hours on the phone everday for a month (if you average 10,000 over 31 days.
Man - thats alot of talking. I dont think i could do that by leaving the phone off the hook.

10,000 minutes seems excessive. There is something you are not telling us. I don't think
Vonage
is going to let you use their service as a "baby monitor" either.

I am not excluding any information. I have only recently (past few months) started using this "large" amount of minutes each month because of somebody I love. My girlfriend moved to California not too long ago and well, me and her having nonthing to do other then conversate. You won't believe how easy it is to talk on the phone that long. We do everything (watch movies together on the phone, conversate about everyday life on the phone, get romantic on the phone, read together on the phone, and even talk on the go from her cell when she calls me hehehe, and we even sleep together on the phone hehehe *snore* ). I am just in love people, GOSH! To compensate for the distance (2,000 miles away now), we talk on the phone...
No harm in that is there?
Only thing is, I am not going to let Packet8 ruine it!

Ahh, good ole times.
That pretty much explains it. I still remember parents yelling at me for pretty heavy phone bills... Good for you
