PostPosted: Thu Nov 06, 2003 10:57 pm    Post subject: Very low volume on .wav VM messages? Reply with quote Back to top

Hi there. Very new to vonage, in fact havent received my ata yet in the mail. I began to play with voice mail and left myself a few messages. I logged onto the website to hear them and I noticed that the volume on the recordings was very very low.

I did the same test with the same phone and the same PC volume settings using j2.com (a free voicemail to email gateway) and the file came back LOUD and CLEAR! yet every time I get the vonage message from their website, it is very low.

Any one else experience this? I havent tried to retrieve the messages from a phone yet, but will try that next.

It seems to me whatever software they're using to digitize( encode) the voice mail messages for storage isnt setting the gain correctly. Its like the volume on their sound card microphone input is too low (analogy).

Also, I have yet to be able to make the notification work, either just an email notification OR the actual wav file..any one have luck with that?

thanks!

Eugene,
Vonage recently "upgraded" (yeah, right!) their voicemail system. I have found that the new system does not work for me nearly as well as the old system. I, too, noticed the problem you described (as well as other problems) and have submitted a request to Vonage to fix their "fix".

Let's hope the next upgrade will actually be an upgrade, not a downgrade... Evil or Very Mad

I just signed up for Vonage today and have the same experience. Extremely disappointing and it seems funny that there does not seem to be an official statement to address this problem.

Since I have only 14 days to decide whether to keep it, I may end up cancelling my service. How do other people get around this problem?

Jim

Use the volume control in your task bar or on your PC speakers?

Uhhh... give us a break. Everything on the PC was set to max. It was also compared to other voice mail services (I have one from work) and there is a definite volume difference.

this is a problem that has been talked about at length, but I don't recall if a workaround was discovered. did anyone here try searching this forum for this issue? also try searching dslreports.com/forum/voip (or maybe /forums/voip, can't remember). not everyone is experiencing this issue, including myself, so the root cause is elusive. but if something was found, your best bet is to go search this forum and the other link, then to just keep up with them if you can't find a fix. and definitely open a ticket with vonage.
