I tried searching for logging issues on the RT31P2, but could not find anything. Has anyone tried to point their logs to a logging server? I tried pointing the logs to my internal firewall. I keep showing tons of drops for UDP traffic on port 162. This port is for SNMPTRAP. Is this possibly the logs? Why would it come on this port rather than syslog (514)? Has anyone successfully captured the logs with a syslog server? If so, let me know how you did it.
Thanks, |

No one uses the syslog feature? That seems odd to me. I guess I'll have to fire up my laptop and put it on the Linksys and run a syslog server. I'll post info as I get it. |

Ok, I put a syslog client on a laptop and it indeed sends SNMP traps to whatever log server you give it. It is not true syslog messages, but rather snmp traps. Priority is set to Local7.Debug. It would be nice to have the options to change the levels. Has anyone figured out a way to customize this output? |

I'm really glad you experimented with the syslog stuff in the Linksys! I currently use the Motorola adapter (s), but I have them behind a Linksys BEFSR41 router. It does the same - Local7.Debug messages to the syslog. There have actually been a few 'hacked' versions of the firmware for the BEFSR series routers, but there is still no way to customize the output of the logging feature at all.
If you find a way, please let me know. I have a Linksys RT device that I decided against using after having it in service for a few days, mostly because I didn't like it as a router. My network setup is a bit weird, and I use a Netgear MR814 router along with my Linksys BEFR41.
In the meantime, I think I will switch back to using the Linksys RT device for my Vonage service, and consolodate things a bit. I was reluctant to do this because I was not sure if it supported the same logging as the BEFSR, but it sounds like it does.
Thanks! |
