Here is my setup
Westell 6100 DSL Modem/Router ---> DS-5++ Ethernet Switch ----> MTA
My DSL Modem works as a router and distributes out IPs to the computers on my network.
HOwever, the MTA is set to receive an IP dynamically, but it obviously needs the actual IP and not an Internal IP.
Can I configure the router to forward certain port(s) to the MTA? Is there some other setting I need to set to get this to work?
L Johnson
PS -- I need this setup because I have to forward ports from the DSL Router to certain machines on my home network and the MTA interferes with this when it is placed immediately behind the router. |

Your Vonage device will actually pull one of your internal IPs...not a routable. Also, I had a similar type setup, but found I was getting low voice quality so I moved the PAP2 to hang directly off the router and this worked much better for me. I did not/do not forward ports nor have the device in the DMZ. Hope this helps.

the MTA can have an internal IP, however that westel modem has internal firewall settings that will block the signal from coming in. You must put the westell in bridge mode and let the MTA do PPPoE authentication. |

I've had this setup, but it doesn't allow me to configure the westell modem once I have the following setup
Bridged PPPoE Westell ---> MTA ---> Router
I need to be able to setup terminal services and not being able to communicate with the router poses some challenges in the normal setup
