Wierd. I've had Vonage for almost 12 months now, and I have NEVER gotten a telemarketer or solicitation call. My experience is that calls usually can be traced somehow back to whatever you have reported it to. Lots of people sell these lists, and that's why if it's not vitally important, I don't give my real number.

I don't give out my real number very often either and have had no telemarketing or out of area callers.

Well, *69 doesn't help, because it's an unknown number. I'm on do not call lists and never had to worry about these calls while an SBC customer because, as I mentioned earlier, their Privacy Manager completely blocked all private, unknown, and out of area calls. In fact, my phone would never ring. Privacy Manager intercepted them.

You'll only get telemarketers bugging you if you transfer an old number that is already on "ok to harass" list...

Not true. I transferred my own number that I've had for 8 years, one that was on the "Do not call" list. SBC's Privacy Manager helped a great deal, since as I said, it blocked such numbers from even ringing me.

Since coming to Vonage, which doesn't have such Privacy Manager capabilties, many of these "unknown" or "out of area" calls have resurrected, and it is that which is quite annoying.

I called vonage to cancel my account since i would be switching to packet 8 which offers ACR. The account management agent i spoke to informed me that his manager/supervisor had informed him that ACR would offifically be out by end of 1st quater-end of march. At which point vonage customers would receive an email on this feature and how to activate it. Packet 8 is still shipping me their adapter and since the service is free for a month, i guess i'll wait and see if this feature will finally be out or if it just another empty promise

Hope the rep you spoke with is right. I cancelled this past week and was told that ACR would be available to "some" customers this year. I understood the "some" part to mean those with certain adapters.

With the cableco's VoIP rollouts in high gear, Vonage really needs to get these relatively common features out to subscribers and find some way to differentiate themselves other than price.

I see that Sunrocket has it as well, along with a couple additional similar features that are pretty cool.

Methinks Vonage is already behind the times in several respects.

You are, of course, free to go with Comcast and pay twice the price (see my closed thread on this very subject).
