What could be keeping Vonage from implementing this feature? Does it have something to do with the way their system is setup? Making it difficulty to implement ACR?

mmmmmmmmmmmmmMabye they will offer it free to customers having the unlimited premium calling plan Eek

They could be savoring this feature to entice people to get the unlimited plan...... guess we will have to wait and see.

Well, if the final product is anything like the beta, then it's worthless. ACR blocks ONLY those people who privatize their number via *67. Very few callers do that. Instead, most anonymous calls that come through are "out of area" or "unknown" calls. As I've explained before, SBC's Privacy Manager blocks ALL calls that do not have a specific caller ID w/ name. Vonage's beta ACR lets all those get through.

Considering I get often a dozen or more such calls per day, the ACR is really useless right now.

I'll probably get kicked off this forum for saying this, but I never received anonymous calls prior to signing up with Vonage. It occurred to me that perhaps they supplement their cash flow by selling their
users personal information. Does this make sense to anyone else?

You won't get kicked off the forum.

No, Vonage is not selling personal information to telemarketers.

Vonage will use customer identifiable information to market products and services to the customer, but will not disclose or make available any customer identifiable information to any third parties seeking to market products. If a customer chooses not to participate in direct marketing of new products and services from Vonage, that customer's information will not be used for the purpose of marketing new products.

Vonage has recognized that telemarketing can be both a boom and a bust for telephony providers and has decided to avoid it.

If you got a new number when you signed up with Vonage then it is possible that that number was previously receiving these calls. If so then you simply need to add it to the Do Not Call list and they will stop. http://www.donotcall.gov

That was the final reason that pushed me to try Vonage.

The day I started up with SBC I started receiving a ton of telemarket calls. I called SBC and inquired about it, SBC informed me if I desired my phone number to remain private I would have to pay a fee, I forget what they called this fee now... something like a privatory fee

They should have called it the Don't Sell My Number Fee. This made me irate because my number was unlisted and private... But they had sold it out to telemarket companies. With Vonage I have not once received a telemarket call and am enjoying the peace immensely. Very Happy

I have had my existing number for several years, and brought it to Vonage. I have been on the National Do Not Call Registry since Day One. However, shortly after becoming a Vonage customer, I started receiving junk calls several times per day. These are almost always "Anonymous" calls, not just out of area. I have told the callers repeatedly that I am on the Do Not Call List, but it does no good. I want the ability to prevent unwanted calls!

To top all this off, I sent an email to Vonage Support asking about the beta Anonymous Call Rejection, and I received a snotty, cold letter that they were NEVER going to offer such a service! Not good Public Relations at all...

If I find another service that will work in my area, I will change.

Your term in the National Do Not Call List may have expired. The registration is valid for only 5 years. Not sure how long it's been around, but if you we on it from day one...

Just a thought...

Well, it hasn't been in existence for that long, so that is not the problem. I have since re-entered it anyway. There is absolutely no excuse for people to receive junk phone calls with the techonology that is available. Unless someone sells customer lists.
