Hi!

I have been contemplating getting Vonage for 2 months now...have finally decided to do it!

I have a desktop PC and a laptop. Currently I have cable internet with a wired linksys router. I want to get a wireless router so that I will have the desktop wired into the wireless router and my laptop will be wirelessly connected. Now this is where I need help. My local BB says that I need to get the linksys wireless router which is Vonage enabled, otherwise I will not be able to run Vonage AND have wireless internet. I have tried getting through to Vonage tech support but have gotten an equal number of affirmatives and negatives!!
Could anyone tell me how this setup will work? and what equipment I will need to get my apartment to have wireless internet and Vonage working? The connection diagram on the website leads me to think that it should be doable without having to dish out an extra 100 bucks on the Vonage-enabled wireless router.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

See this link for some opinions. I personally recommend getting the box from Vonage and a WRT54G or WRT54GS router that you own yourself.

Here's the link: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic4324.html

Hi Kazmi,
To use Vonage, you will need a Vonage ATA (which, as kenn10 mentioned, you can get from Vonage or buy from a Big Box store like Best Buy). If you want to set up a wireless network, you'll also need a wireless router *but not necessarily the Vonage-enabled linksys wireless router*. I've successfully used 2 different wireless routers with my Vonage box (initially the Linksys WRT54G, now a Belkin wireless). Neither wireless router was "Vonage-enabled" -- I just hooked up the Vonage box to my wireless router with an ethernet cable.

My network is set up like this:
Motorola SB5100 cable modem > Belkin wireless router > Motorola VT1005 (Vonage box) For me, this configuration works well, even though the Vonage box is behind (and not in front of) the Belkin router.

Good luck!

They didn't know what they were talking about at Best Buy. Definitely get the WRT54G and have Vonage send you the free adapter. You'll get plenty of help here with that hardware if you need it. Listen to kenn10, he is right on about this. If you buy a wireless router, get the WRT54G. You will not regret it.

Staples has the WRT54G on sale this week for $59 - $10 Easy Rebate (no mailing required), plus you can get 12% off with this Customer Appreciation flyer:

ctgirl,

That is the arrangement I am trying to make work, but the vt1005 just keeps blinking. I have the Belkin 7230-4 wireless router. How did you configure yours? I tried doing the dmz thing on the Belkin, but it doesn't seem to work.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Wayne
