I've been trying out Vonage for the past week and I like the service except for a noticable static/white noise I have.
My current set up is: Toshiba cable modem | AT&T wireless router | | | | | Linksys PAP2 | laptop desktop
I've tried moving the loaction of the router and PAP2, the line2 short trick both with a phone off the hook and connecting lines 2 and 3 of a phone cord, various phones both corded and cordless, various cables and I still have a noticeable static/white noise especially during quiet periods of a conversation.
Does anyone have any additional suggestions on things to try? I really want Vonage to work for me, but I can't deal with the static. |

After doing additional searches on the forums, I'd like to try port forwarding through my router. My router has a setup wizard for Voip and its asking for a range of "trigger ports", "trigger type" (tcp, udp, or both), a range of "public ports", and "public type" (also tcp, udp or both). I believe that both "types" are udp and that the applicable ports are 5060-5063, 69, 10000-20000, but which are considered "trigger ports" and which ones are "public ports"? |
