Post subject: Problems with incoming calls ringing
Hey everyone... I'm new here, and fairly new to
Vonage
as well. I searched around for this topic and I am actually pretty sure I know the answer to my question, but I have a second one as well...
My problem is that sometimes when people call my
Vonage
number, the phone will ring anywhere from 4-10 times on their end before it rings once on my actual phone. Or, sometimes the phone doesn't ring at all, but I see the screen light up and callerID info on it, so I pick it up and sure enough people are there. Occasionaly everything works right away on the first ring.
I have been trying to keep track of when it happens or who it happens to, and it's totally random from what I can tell. I basically start every converstion with "how many times did the phone ring before I answered" and usually their end rang more than mine.
Now, if i understand correctly, a voltage bump on my box would help that, right? Here's the biggie: I don't have time to sit on hold forever just to get someone that has to escalate the call or whatever they end up doing (my wife and I both work full time, go to school full time, and we have a 7 month old son). Is there anyone here that handles that kind of stuff that might be able to help me out? I emailed support about this last Thursday and never heard back, but I shot them another one tonight just in case they decide to respond to any of them.
If anyone knows that a voltage bump would help my incoming ringing problem, I would like to know that too, just so I know what's going on.
Thanks!
Jeff

I would assume you probably have the rt31p2 unit. Some have the same problem with the PAP unit.
I think they finally got it down to a bad firmware upgrade.

Yes, I have the rt31p2... Just updated my sig to include that. If it's a firmware problem, what do I need to do? Call them and get it flashed? I am running firmware version 1.27.01 and Voice Version 2.0.13(LIb) right now. I looked on Linksys' site, but I guess you can't get firmware updates from there, because that option was grayed out. Does
Vonage
push the updates themselves?

It sounds like raising the voltage may help. Do you have phones connected directly to the RT31P2 or are you using your house's wiring?
You can try to send a PM to jdr30 or ssantana. They are both
Vonage
reps.

Thanks, I will check with them!
Initially when I set up
Vonage
, I unhooked the Telco's wiring from my house and had it running through the phone lines, but I was having the ringing problems, which I thought might be the house wiring or something. So now I am running straight from the RT31P2 into the base of my main phone.
I will try to PM them and see if they can be of any help. Heck I am call
Vonage
up right now... It's early. Maybe the hold times won't be so bad!
