I registered for Vonage lately. Is it normal procedure to have to dial the area code first to make an outgoing call from my Vonage phone?? When someone calls my number locally, he does'nt have to dial the area code, that I know...
Can anyone help?
Thanks |

You must be in rural Canada that does not require 10 digit dialing now Even the 519 area code moves to 10 next year.
To answer your question I find that at times 7 digit dialing for local calls work after a brief delay and other times not. The Vonage directions say 10 for local and 11 for outside your area code. |

first, what? the 519 area code is going 10 digit local next year? where is your source? is it on Bell's web site? thats pretty ***, i know they were talking a couple years back that they were close to running out of exchanges, but they were considering an area code split, rather than an overlay, so say everything south of 401 would geta new area code and north would keep 519..
and with Vonage, as long as the person you're calling is in the same area code as your Vonage phone you can dial it 7 digit, even if it's an exchange that used to be 11 digit Long Distance on yoru landline or cell.. Vonage says you can call 7, 10, or 11 for in area code calls, and 10 or 11 for any other area codes in Can or the US.. we never dial 1 to call anyone.... |

According to the book that came with my package - dialing 1 before long distance numbers is -not- required. |

Yes, it's normal... but get used to it! I think most minicipalities will be going to 10 digit dialing anyways. 10 digit dialing has been the case in the GTA for quite some time now |

Try 7 digits and then the pound sign, this may shorten the delay.
This allows the Vonage system to know you have completed the digits needed to place the call. |
