Just wondering if anyone else has been having this problem ...
I've had the Vonage service for almost 2 months now, and so far it's been pretty good. Occasionally I'll have someone say it sounds like I'm talking at the end of a tunnel, but that may be because of my cordless and headset. I've never had an outtage. I did have problems with noise on the PAP2, but I exchanged it and the new unit seems to be ok.
The real problems started on Friday, where on just about every caller said my voice was cutting in and out and sounded like digitized garble. I had to switch over to my Bell line. This continued through the weekend and Monday. I ran some speed tests and it turns out my Rogers connections was much slower than it should be. I called tech support and they did confirm that something was screwy with all the cable modems in my neighbourhood. I have heard rumours that Rogers is testing the lines for their own digital phone service.
If you're having problems, you might want to check your connection first before calling Vonage.
Question: Are the Vonage numbers portable to a competitor? It'll be interesting to see where the Rogers DPS prices come in at. |

BTW - How can you "trust" the speed tests? When I use the Vonage VOIP test I consistently get downloads below 1Mbps. When I use the Rogers test it's usually between 2 and 2.5. Uploads for both sites are around 300Kbps. |

You should probably use the speed tests on DSLReports.com... those are pretty accurate.
Speed tests varies due to the location of the server. The Rogers speed test maybe biased since the server is located on the local network, thus making it faster. |
