Anyone know if it's possible to use Vonage with a software answering system like Talkworks? I tried but since the software is configured to work with my machine's internal modem I couldn't configure it. My setup is pretty normal with the Vonage modem phone 'Line 2' going into the computer 'Phone' jack and the phone coming from the computer 'Line' jack. I also have a fax line into the Vonage 'Line 1' jack. Everything works perfectly and my phone has an answering machine on it with 2 mailboxes but I need more mailboxes and a software answering system would offer me as many as I need. |

AFAIK, It should work
Is your Line 2 port on your Vonage router an active phone port? Can you plug a phone in it and make phone calls?
Have you disabled voicemail through the Vonage dashboard? |

I'm pretty sure you've got that backwards. The jack on the modem labeled "phone" is for connecting a telephone to your modem, if you want to use a phone (it's a passthrough connection). The jack labeled "line" is for the incoming telephone line, which would ordinarily be hooked into your house wiring via a wall outlet, but in this case should be connected to your Vonage adapter.
However, since the connections inside most fax/modem cards are usually wired in parallel, it may not make any actual difference. Still it's not working the way you have it setup, so you may as well give it a shot. |

Everything works now the way I have it set up. I have one phone line and one fax line. The problem is that my answering machine software won't work and that's what I want to be able to do. I want my computer to answer the phone and NOT my telephone answering machine. |

Let's see here...you ask for help and then when someone says you've hooked it up wrong, you don't want to try it because "everything's working EXCEPT for X"?
The problem may be that your computer software isn't answering the line because the line is actually plugged into the phone port. Or maybe not, but I know for a fact you have the ports switched around and on some modems it makes a difference.
I'm not promising that's the problem, but it's possible. |

Wow, 5:00 in the morning and we're both posting within seconds of each other. There's got to be something better we can do with our lives. |

I'm up at 4 and if I don't have my problems solved by 6, it's a bad day. |

Well I hope that worked for you...if not, are you getting an error message from TalkWorks? |

The error that I get is that it can't find my modem. I have to be able to get around the VT1005V. Talkworks (or any other software answering) won't recognize the Vonage modem. It needs the computer modem. I have used Talkworks before when I had a wired phone system but I am getting the feeling that it is not possible with Vonage. |
