Subsequent to my post of 3/16 re: Ebay acquired VT1005V:

I received the MTA. It appeared that it had never been used. The power brick wiring was still wound and the clear plastic on the front had the protective plastic covering. No box or documentation.

I called Vonage to activate. They said the MAC ID of this new MTA is not in their database. They will not activate any MTA that they don't recognize. They suggest it may have been manufactured for another Voip service. (Does anyone else use the VT1005V??) I don't know where the seller got this MTA but his offering says it is for Vonage, so I am taking the issue to him.

During the conversation the CS rep at Vonage indicated that if the MAC ID was recognized and had been used by another customer they would still activate it for me, which contradicts the original thread. He also confirmed that the Motorola TAs are no longer available, only the Linksys.

So unless I can send this unit back to the seller because it is not usable as advertised I guess I am stuck with a lovely little $20 Motorola door stop. Of course I could always plug it in and watch the doorstop blink. Can your doorstops blink?

Caveat emptor. Sad

I know for a fact that Vonage sent me a router which had been previously used by another customer, so it seems natural that they are testing and recycling returned equipment. I don't really have a problem with that, though, since Vonage replaces it if anything goes wrong while I'm a customer

That was the beginning problem of my rants. They sent me a used, doa replacement router, and I kept the old one.

the Vonage system automatically deactivated the older router, and I was w/o dial tone for a week.

I also had compatibility issues using the previous adapter while faxing, and then the old cable modem was dropping packages.

When the new cable modem was installed, there were more compatability issues between the old router and the linksys.

It took a tier two tech to figure out the problem, and we did it over this forum.

It just saves you some fees and you can "GET IT NOW!!!" instead of waiting for one in the mail. Personally, I'd never buy one myself. Using the "borrowed" one allows you to ask for upgraded adapters as they come out.

kenn10, please clarify what you meant about asking for upgraded adapters as they come out. I have the Motorola, but I'd like one of the Linksys guys that are out there now, in particular, one with a built-in four-port router. How do I "upgrade"??

Now, I think this is funny. A friend of mine sold their adapter to someone who we do not care for at all. He was interested in getting Vonage. Hmm, he might not be able to now. LOL Twisted Evil Very Happy
