When I sign up for Vonage, how do I transfer my Telus number to Vonage. I purchased the adapter from Staples.
How long does it take to have the number transfered? |

In Canada, Vonage currently does not offer number portability. You cannot transfer your Telis or Bell number to Vonage at this time.
A letter I received from a Vonage representative working from the Mississauga office stated that LNP along with 911 will be available in Canada soon. Until then, you will not have 911, and you will have to take the number that Vonage gives you. |

Has anyone had any indication of when Vonage will be able to transfer existing phone numbers? I sent them an e-mail, but haven't received a reply from them. |

the problem with all this is, that Vonage is a US company, event ho they have CDN area codes and numbers, they are still based in teh US.. thats why they can't transfer landline numbers, like other CDN providers can..
they do have an office in Mississagua now, and they said within the month we shoudl have 911, so maybe that will start the ball rolling on being able to transfer numbers, and make 800/310 dialling work for all numbers.. |

The Primus version of vonage (can't recall what it's called) advertises number portability as a feature.
Tf they can do it (primus).. then why can't vonage canada do it?

because Primus is CDN company, they have landline services already as well.. Vonage is a USA company, you can't transfer your number to teh USA.. Vonage is not a ILEC or CLEC.. |

That is the key right there. Until Vonage (or whomever is providing Vonage w/ numbers in Canada) gets approved as a CLEC by the CRTC, LNP will not happen. |

That is incorrect. Primus is not a Canadian company. They are an American company. They sell VoIP in the US under the name Lingo. |

Primus does have a Canadian division... Primus Canada right? However, I wouldn't be surprised in Vonage Canada does get CLEC soon... we have to remember that Vonage has only really been doing business in Canada for <1 year! |

Vonage is not a CLEC in any of the markets that they have service in the US or in Canada. They partner with other phone companies to gain access to phone numbers. In Canada, they use Group Telecom for their phone numbers. Group Telecom is a CLEC and does support LNP.
The problem is somewhere between Vonage and GT. |
