If I go out and buy the WRT54GP2 from BB do I than call Vonage to have them activated. BTW I'm a current customer using the RT31P2. Does anyone out there using the WRT54GP2? worth it? I need wireless access on my laptop. |

You would simply need to call Vonage and tell them you have the new device. They will need the MAC address of the new device in order to activate it.

I've been using the WRT54GP2 for about 2 months. No complaints with Vonage. It's been working beautifully.
I just don't like it that this router doesn't have the capabilities for me to VPN back to my own network. |

Are you sure that it won't do VPN pass through? You might be able to open up for IPSec through the firewall. I also heard that you could put a mryiad of different opensource codes on this fw. |

I think in your case, I'd go out and buy the WRT54G router and use it for the wireless. That way your whole network won't be based on a piece of gear locked into Vonage. You can get the WR54G or GS units at very good prices and then load customer firmware on them like Sveasoft or HyperWRT to improve QoS capabilities. I'm not a big fan of the WRT54GP2 since you won't ever have full access to it.
That's the route I took and I'm happy with the setup. I have my RT31P2's behind the WRT54GS. |

I second kenn10's advice. After reading about his configuration I went and did the same thing, and it has improved things all around. |

Can I get to know what the configuration is? I just posted a thread with the same question!!!!
I want to get the WRT54G but was told that I would not be able to run the Vonage service unless I bought the linksys Vonage enabled router....I am technically challenged but if I could get a hold of some basic instructions,I think I can get it to work. |

Here's my config:
Cable Modem ==> WRT54GS ==> Vonage RT31P2's ==> Phone
My wireless and wired PC's hang off the WRT54GS. |

They didn't know what they were talking about at Best Buy. Definitely get the WRT54G and have Vonage send you the free adapter. You'll get plenty of help here with that hardware if you need it. |
