Blv it or not I called customer service, and they actually helped me
I had to
1. Connect the DirecTV /TIvo Hughes, Model HDVR2.
Directly into line one on the adapter,
2. Change my Area Code to 212 (on the Directv Tivo unit for dial
in number)
3. Select new number, normal up my connection,
4. Make Daily call now , and wham connected and completed
10 out of 10 calls completed sucessfully.

Has anyone tried hooking the TiVo to a
Vonage
fax line? Seems like that would work since it's a modulated data signal just like a fax machine. My units are all using USB, but if it works, a $9.95 fax line might be worth it considering some of the pain that I sense here.
A
Vonage
fax line is no different than a
Vonage
voice line, its just stripped of all of its features and only has Caller ID. As far as how it transmits the sound over the internet to the other phone, its exactly the same.

We were already set optimally on the
Vonage
end, had 2 successful calls to the toll free number before everything quit. We use
Vonage
with Linksys wireless router connected to the whole house phone lines. Set to maximum quality.
Here's what finally worked with a Samsung Directv Tivo 70 hour type and a Samsung Directv Tivo 30 hour
ignore the dail in number
Dial Prefix: 12122773895
Call waiting Prefix: ,,#019,,
phone available: off
Dial tone detect: off
I skipped the look for local numbers (the old unit still is set up for our old house in a different state)
After HOURS of research and trying God knows how many different configurations, the above configuration worked on all 3 of my Tivo receivers (all different makes). The only change I made was to put *99 into the call waiting prefix, thus *99,,#019,,
Ignoring the dial-in number, and setting the dial prefix to 12122773895 with phone available off and dial tone detect off did the trick.
FWIW, my 3 DirecTivos are a Hughes 35 hr series 2, a Samsung 35 hr series 2, and a RCA 70 hr series 2.
What a PITA this was to figure out. I hope I never have to go through it again!
This is the method that worked for me with my PAP2
Vonage
adapter and my R10 DirecTivo. Got it working with this method and it is dialing perfectly everytime now.

Post subject: Success - FINALLY - Directv R10
Finally success...
I now have my Directv DVR R10 connected and working...
Tried a million different combos - here is what worked:
Logged into the
Vonage
dashboard:
https://secure.vonage.com/vonage-web/dashboard/index.htm
Chose Feature -> Bandwidth Saver -> 90 Kbps (Highest)
Waited an hour for this to take effect.
My cable modem is plugged into my
Vonage
Linksys router, the Linksys has the phone cord plugged into it. IMPORTANT - Unplug your PC, other routers, etc. from your LAN - only have your cable modem plugged into the
Vonage
router and the
Vonage
router connected to the phone line. This was the change that made the difference in my connecting and being unable to dial out...
Other than that:
Set my prefix to 212 (NY - even though I'm in 972 - TX)
Dial Prefix: 12122773895
Call Waiting Prefix: *99,,#019,,
Tone/Pulse: Tone
Phone Avail: Off
Dial-Tone: Off
Thanks for all the help....

Post subject: New Non TiVo HD DVR's From Direct TV
Does anyone have one of these? Supposedly they do not require a call, but the guy I talked to at American Satallite says you still have to at least plug into even a dead phone line. Why would that be necessary?
I got them coming to do an install on Wednesday. I have a V-Tech system that does not use existing phone lines and a Lyncsys WRT-54G Router. Is this going to work?

Post subject: Re: IT FINALLY WORKED- Samsung DIRECTIVO
Wow. After 368 days without a connection (gave up a long time ago after spending the day on the phone with various
Vonage
CS reps) I decided to see what I could find on the internet to fix my vonage/directtv connection problem. Seems like I'm not alone. This fix actually worked the first time. I will say that the "negotiation" step took over an hour the first time but is now quite quick. I assume there was a lot of updating going on.
I'm still perplexed why they don't have wireless cards built in so we can just access the information over a wireless network.
Anyway, thanks for all of the help everyone......
I can't wait to actually order a PPV show.

Order PPVs on DirecTV's web site. It's better. When you order via the remote, it's viewable only on that receiver. However, whenever you order a PPV via the web--and there's no additional charge to do so, BTW--it's viewable on ALL the receivers on your account. I've got several TIVOs all over my place, from my living room (three) to my master bedroom, to guest room--you name it. When I order PPVs, I usually record them on my BR TIVO and one of my living room TIVOs, then I get to download the recordings to my PC and burn them to a DVD.

I have a Directv DVR R10 and this is what worked for me:
Dial in: 212-238-4220
Dial prefix: *99
Call waiting: *70
Tone/Pulse: Tone
Phone avail: OFF
Dial tone detect: OFF
I also have a Samsung Directv DVR SIR-S4080R and this is what worked for that one:
Dial in: 212-920-3005
Dial prefix: ,#019
Call waiting: *99
Tone/Pulse: Tone
Phone Avail: OFF
Dial tone detect: ON
I just got
Vonage
today and it took me 12 hours of messing with different codes to figure this out. These both dialed in tonight and they connected great. When I tell it to dial in manually it works a majority of the time, but sometimes there are glitches. I hope this helps someone. I thank everyone who put codes in here as that is the only reason I managed to get these to work as fast as I did and I don't consider 12 hours a very short time LOL, but compared to the times I have seen on here 12 hours is nothing.

Post subject: DirecTivo R10 Vonage Success
Had to switch to
Vonage
last fall when AT&T discontinuted their CallVantage
Voip
service.. Was finally able to connect using settings I'd found here until a couple of weeks ago..
What "used to work" was:
Set Dial-In Number: (local #)
Set Dial Prefix: 2122773895
Set Call Waiting Prefix: ,#034
Set Tone/Pulse: Tone
Set Phone Avail. Detection: Off
Set Dial Tone Detection: Off
Suddenly started getting failed in the first step "Dialing"
So, spent many hours back on the internet again researching and found like here, most of the posts were at least 4 years old (or more).. I did however stumble on a few posts (old as they were), that add the "1" to both the Dial-In Number and the Dial Prefix..
So, tried that... STILL failed... Made one more change (had already tried changing the "212" number) and it WORKED... Added a "pause" before the "212" number)..
Also went into my
Vonage
account online and changed the "Bandwidth Saver" to 90 kbps as mentioned in several other posts (highest quality) and waited the hour for the new settings to take effect.
So successful dialing set-up for my R10 now is
Set Dial-In Number: (1+local #)
Set Dial Prefix: ,12122717103
Set Call Waiting Prefix: ,#034
Set Tone/Pulse: Tone
Set Phone Avail. Detection: Off
Set Dial Tone Detection: Off
