To be honest, I don't think all the Tivo dialin problems are attributed to Vonage. I haven't been able to make a connection to Tivo for 14 days, but I've only had Vonage for 6 days. The biggest problem I'm having now is consistancy. If I change a paramater (any one of them), I can successfully make a test call, once. But I can't make another successfull test call unless I change a parameter.

After 6 months of research I finally have the solution to my DirectTiVo over Vonage problem.

Install a 2-line DSL filter from Radio Shack ($16.99) or a 1-line DSL filter from Home Depot ($5.97)
Set Dial Prefix: ,#104
Set Call Waiting Prefix: *99

I have 3 DirectTivo's
Directv HR10-250
Hughes GXCEBOT
Sony SAT-60

Each one connected first time and every time with getting a new number, making a test call and making a daily call.

I found that I had to disable the *70, prefix for TiVo to dial in. Not sure why, but it worked.

Also, I finally got everything working by using the New York City dial-in number (I am in Seattle), *99, dial prefix, and DSL filters on both ends.

I never tried it without the *99, or DSL filters, so it may work without these steps. The trick for me was removing *70, and changing the number to be New York City.

The only outstanding issue I have is when my kids pick up the phone during the TiVo call Smile

Vonage doesn't support *70? Check the link below.

This may seem like a no brainer, but it cost me a few minutes trying to get my DirecTV TiVos to connect successfully. You have to remove the *70, prefix, if you were previously using this to disable call waiting. Vonage does not support *70,.

I noticed that, too, but it doesn't work for me. I just get a rapid busy if I dial *70, and it prevented my TiVos from dialing in. Despite what the Vonage Help says, this is one way to help getting TiVo working.

Ok, that's strange. *70 works for me.

I bet my problem now with *70 is because I disabled Call Waiting - that makes sense. It was too intrusive with Vonage. But I had Call Waiting enabled when TiVo was doing *70, so in theory then it should have worked.

So take the *70 suggestion as a troubleshooting step if TiVo is having trouble dialing in. My mistake saying Vonage doesn't support *70, since it is working for others (I edited my original post to clarify).

I feel real lucky reading the hardships others are having. My SAT-T60 just dials right in every time, no special settings. And I recently added an R-10 to my collection that dials in without any prefixes at all. It took me 5 tries to find a working local number, but after that it is fine. Funny how each box has to use a different phone number, they aren't universal. Also, all of this success can be attributed to the Firmware Upgrade to the Linksys RT31P2 by Vonage. Before that I never could use the modem, always used PPP through serial.

I finally had success with these settings.

Area code: 212
Dial prefix: ,,#104,,
Call waiting prefix: *99
Phone available: on
Dial tone detect: on
DLS filter: no

My local area code is 210 but I could not get it to work with local numbers. It does take a little while to negotiate but it works. Hope this helps someone.

on a DirecTivo DVR 40

This is all I changed:
Dial Prefix: 2122773895,
Call Waiting: ,,#019
Phone Avail: off
Dial Tone: On

And NO DSL Line Filters, and I have my Vonage networked networked through all the exsiting phone jacks. So I don't have the tivo hooked up directly to the Vonage linksys RT.

I did a test call and it worked, then did a contact dvr and it worked too.

Thanks for all the info

I have a Motorola VT1005 and a Linksys PAP2. I have tested over the last month or so.

My Directivo Series 2 gets thru on dialin about 85% of the time when using the Motorola.

When using the Linksys PAP2 I only get thru about 10% of the time.

This around the same time of day with everything else the same.

PAP2 is firmware 3.1.3
Motorola is newest firmware.
