I just recently purchased the R10 from Directv for new service. I am using a 714 area code from
Vonage
and choose a number from that area code. It worked with no special numbers anywhere, but it will have times when it will not connect. But I would say around 70% of the time it will connect first try.
By the way
Vonage
is very cool!

I just bought a Series 2 Tivo, have Dish Network with Echostar satellite for cable, and use
Vonage
with Motorola modem and Netgear router.
I got 98% throught the guided set up by disconnecting my wireless router, and unplugging the phone line I use for my phone, and replacing it with the phone line ran out of the Tivo device. It's gone through 2 successful dial outs, but on the last one where it needs to download the programming, it fails.
Through the last process, it wont get past the connecting process, but will say it is "Cleaning Up" and completes that process, but never connects.
Any ideas?

Worked for me too, finally after months of this garbage
Using Directivo HR10-250 calling from Sacramento;
ignore the dial in number
Dial Prefix: 12122773895
Call waiting Prefix: ,,#019,,
phone available: off
Dial tone detect: off
And I do have a DSL filter connected to the TIVO box. (either)
For the Directivo R10
Dial-In Number: 12122773895(although I didnt need this chainged)
Dial Prefix: ,#034
Call Waiting Prefix: *70,*99
Tone/Pulse: Tone
Phone Avail Detection: Off
Dial Tone Detection: On
Tested 10 out of 10 times on two R10's and one 10-250.
I purchased the Directivo R10 model and used your settings and it worked perfectly!
Thanks for your contribution as I'm sure I would have been pulling my hair our trying to get it to work properly!

Post subject: Serial PPP Connection for TIVO
Can anyone provide instructions on setting up a call with the serial cable / PPP connection mentioned by RLSTJOHN on the first page of this forum topic?
I want to switch to
Vonage
but have held up until now because I thought I needed Verizon for the phone line.
Thanks - Don

I connect to Tivo 100% of the time. I use a two line splitter on Line 1 of my RTP300. I use no dialing prefixes etc, just detecting if line is free to dial out. My upload is real good so maybe thats why it works nicely.

I had been using the ,#019 prefix and it seemed to work fine, however about a month ago it quit...after much searching and trial & error I came up with this solution...let me know if it works for you!
Here it is...this has worked for me:
set your Dial Prefix to: 2122773895
Then your Call waiting Prefix to: ,#034
Then set your area code to 212 and download new call in numbers
when that goes through select the 212-277-3895 number
set it up to dial with or without the "1" and give it a try --
This worked for me too, to be specific I also had phone available detection and dial tone detection off and I did not use a DSL filter. It hung on "negotiating" the first few tries, but then it connected and worked like a champ after that. I was able to make test calls and the daily call and my 6.2 software upgrade was finally activated. 6.2 is a great improvement. For the record I have an RCA DVR40. Thanks Chefboz!

Post subject: 6.2 software improvements for Direct Tivo Series 2
You can get the full scoop @ tivocommunity.com but the 2 biggest improvements are the addition of folders to the Now Playing list so like programs can be grouped together and the UI is much faster. Maybe 2.5 times faster than the original when you are moving thru the menus. Definitely worth letting you Tivo call home to have it activated. Until I got
Vonage
a month ago, I was without a landline telephone. This update was released in May(I think) of this year. Next I want to play with the software and enable some of the additional features.
