Post subject: How much did you spend?
You say I'm a shill? Well your a clown. How much did you spend on an external modem and a cable? I'll bet it was more than $10.00. My solution will work without spending money on a modem. Plus,
you
have to drag your external modem between all your Tivo's each month. Now who's the shill.
It's easy for you to say this information should be free because you didn't invest over 100 hours of research, testing and griding through hours on the phone with
Vonage
Customer Support. My experience is you get what you pay for. My supporters (and I have many) are getting something of value from me. The rest of you can suffer with a hack that aint worth spit.

As a matter of fact, I am NOT using an external modem, or serial cable, or anything of the sort. I'm dialing straight through the Tivo box. I'm using the settings I specified in my post a few posts earlier, and they WORK, on 3 different receivers (RCA, Samsung, and Hughes).
If you were planning on selling your "expertise", you should have specified that in your post, not deceptively say "hey email me and I'll send you the file."
I'll also note, that I spent about 2-3 hours trying mutiple settings till I got one to work, but I gladly shared my working resolution to the community wiuthout trying to recoup or make a buck.

Fair enough, I apologize for calling him a shil.
I was just stunned that he tried to charge for something that a community like this should gladly share, and I didn't like the way he coyly left that out of his "hey I can help you"post. I felt it was in the best interests of your forums to forwarn people, in hindsight, I realize I should have PM'd the info to the Admins such as yourself instead. Again, I apologize.

Post subject: Simple solution for TiVo
After 6 months of research I finally have the solution to my DirectTiVo over
Vonage
problem.
Install a 2-line DSL filter from Radio Shack ($16.99) or a 1-line DSL filter from Home Depot ($5.97)
Set Dial Prefix: ,#104
Set Call Waiting Prefix: *99
I have 3 DirectTivo's
Directv HR10-250
Hughes GXCEBOT
Sony SAT-60
Each one connected first time and every time with getting a new number, making a test call and making a daily call.

Post subject: IT FINALLY WORKED

I'll post since I have scoured these boards for help and something finally worked.
We were already set optimally on the
Vonage
end, had 2 successful calls to the toll free number before everything quit. We use
Vonage
with Linksys wireless router connected to the whole house phone lines. Set to maximum quality.
Here's what finally worked with a Samsung Directv Tivo 70 hour type and a Samsung Directv Tivo 30 hour
ignore the dail in number
Dial Prefix: 12122773895
Call waiting Prefix: ,,#019,,
phone available: off
Dial tone detect: off
I skipped the look for local numbers (the old unit still is set up for our old house in a different state)
After HOURS of research and trying God knows how many different configurations, the above configuration worked on all 3 of my Tivo receivers (all different makes). The only change I made was to put *99 into the call waiting prefix, thus *99,,#019,,
Ignoring the dial-in number, and setting the dial prefix to 12122773895 with phone available off and dial tone detect off did the trick.
FWIW, my 3 DirecTivos are a Hughes 35 hr series 2, a Samsung 35 hr series 2, and a RCA 70 hr series 2.
What a PITA this was to figure out. I hope I never have to go through it again!
This is what I used and it worked on my HR10-250. Just ignoring the dial-in number works. Thank God for the 212 number!!
And Thanks to all that spent so much time to figure this out!

By putting the entire 212 number in the dialing prefix,
Vonage
is tricked because it ignores all numbers after the 1st 10. Therefore, whatever number is set as the dial in number is ignored/

Another success story with HDTIVO thanks to all of you who posted there settings. This is what worked for me.
ignore the dail in number
Dial Prefix: 12122773895
Call waiting Prefix: ,,#019
phone available: off
Dial tone detect: off
DSL filter in the back of HR10-250 not the router.
I don't know if this helped but I also hooked up the phone line directly into the
Vonage
router from the HR10-250, this is when I first started to get anywhere with success. Before I couldn't get a dial tone. Then I rehooked the router to the wall phone line which connects the rest of the house and it still works.
I can also use some of my local numbers to connect.
Thanks

How long should the negotiating stage take in a test call. I have finally found a combo that will get me to the connecting stage but it seems like it gets hung up on the negotiating part. Dialing the 212 number, *99, and #104 will get me to negotiate but thats where I'm stuck. Any suggestions. I do have the filter in line also.
