Has anyone actually gotten this to work? I have been trying for days and keep getting loggin failed or 404 and 408 errors
CAN I USE MY HX4700 WITH MY XTEN SOFTPHONE AND MY
Vonage
ACCOUNT?
The support from both
Vonage
and Xten is HORRIBLE on this subject.
Please help if you have figured this mess out.
Have you purchased an optional softphone number from
Vonage
?

I don't use PocketPC. I *do* use the softphone. Sign up for the softphone with
Vonage
, and you can use either the XTen <free> product or the SJLabs <free> softphone. I have used both, but prefer the SJLabs product. The SJPhone looks plain, but the
Vonage
profile from their site changes it to a better looking skin.
Once you place or receive a call, the number will be in your phone book, and calling only requires a click on the high-lighted entry. (SJPhone) Missed called are also logged, or you can use voicemail or forwarding just like the regular account.

Not a "dumb question", but you may get some dumb answers.
The software is free.
Vonage
will give you XTen software, but I prefer the SJLabs product, available here:
http://www.sjlabs.com/sjp.html
(also download the user guide)
remember to register the free SJPhone to remove the reminder pop-ups. They will email the registry code.
Also download the
Vonage
profile:
http://www.sjlabs.com/sjp-usb.html
This will load the
Vonage
information and make setup VERY EASY.
On a desktop PC your interface will look like this:
http://home.comcast.net/~thuxton/vonagesjphone.jpg
(SJPhone with
Vonage
profile loaded)
PDF instructions for PocketPC are here:
http://www.sjlabs.com/doc/SJphone%20Guide%20PPC2003.pdf
Once you have registered your software and loaded the
Vonage
profile, setup merely entails entering your phone number and password, which will be saved.

It works!! It Works!!!
After days of frustration of why I could not get my
Vonage
softphone to work on my PPC I found the answer. Its the password!! I finally said screw it, I am canceling the old number and adding a new on with a new password. I re-entered the new info, hit ok and it logged right in. Made a call to my cell and it went right through. This is sweeeeettt!!!!

Great. You are going to love the softphone. I also had trouble with the password. (had trouble with a password prompt repeatedly poping up during config) That's one reason I used the XTen product for
Vonage
.
Just think of all the monthly phone charges you will save over the next year. It will pay for your PocketPC.

Post subject: How do you use PPC?
How are you guys communicating with PocketPC's?
I mean, are you talking directly into the device, or using a headset of sorts. I know my Dell X50v does not have an external mic input.
??

How fast can you get connected to that wi-fi hot spot with that pocket pc? And then do you just call up that icon for the xten phone? Do you use a mic and an earbud?
And how good is the connection and what happens when the level of connection to the wifi fluctuates?
Eric
Ditto! I got greatly interested in this when i first discovered the possibility a few days ago. I also greatly share the concern quoted above. First of all I think at least half of access points and wi-fi routers are secured. And whenever I do get a signal with my laptop for example, the status usually flactuates between low or very low, only sometimes do I get a good signal.
So, how far from the "hot spot" do I need to be in order to receive and make calls rather normally? Do I need to be located in an urban business location in order to take advantage of this setup we are talking about?
In other words, can someone please define the limits ... exactly more or less
Thanks for your time.

Oh but it does support an external mic. The Mic connector is the same as the headphone connector. The headphone 3.5 mm connector has 3 connections. You need a 3.5 mm with 4 connections. like this

or

Hope this helps

This is an old thread, but still working.
Make sure you don't have softphone already running on another machine. (will only run from a single IP at a time.) Your main account is tied to the hardware and cannot be used through a softphone.
I assume you are signed up for the softphone and you have found the softphone password on your softphone config page.
I have found the XTen software difficult to use. Try the SJLabs free product.
