I am in agreement, and this is not that bad of a thread (it has not been deleted or locked). As a matter of fact, you Canadians are great. You all seem like best friends just trying to help each other out. I really like that. Smile It reminds me of how this site was 2 years ago.

I have been having problems in the other forums with out-right-spam being posted that appear to be very similar to the link you posted..., hence my comment.

Hi Dan,
My concern is really the fact that other companies are out there beefing up their systems to lure business away from Vonage. I'm surprised that Vonage is not reacting faster.

I have to agree ... is Vonage sponsoring this forum? If not... maybe you can turn this into a general Voip forum to get more sponsorship/ad revenue Smile

I have a close relationship with Vonage and I do market their product. They do not sponsor this site directly, but this is the Vonage Forum Smile

I'm very interested to subsribe with Vonage Canada. BUT! Very Happy I have a 7Gb/month limit and speed of 1Mbps on my Cable internet. Is it enough?

There is no Phone number for Vonage in my region. If I get a number from Montreal or Toronto, Will it be a long distance call for people to call me?

Can my local cable Internet provider block my link with Vonage?

If someone can help me positively with thoses, I'm a new Vonage sub!

Thanks

I'm with Rogers 3M/384 service, I have a 61,440 MB limit, and I looked at my usage online for dec, jan, and feb, well, in Dec I used more bytes than I did the next 2 moinths, and I didnt' have Vonage untill partway through Jan.. (those 2 months were about 3GB) .. so unless you have Kazaa running 24/7 you wont' come near your limit..

if you pick a Toronto phone number you will have just that, a TO number, so if the ppl calling you can't call TO locally then they will get billed LD.. same if you choose Montreal or Ottawa.. the good news is, that if Vonage does get service in yoru area, then you can switch numbers for free..

I have not heard anything about ay ISP's blocking ports in Canada.. esp Rogers, since they don't have phone service other than cell, they aren't going to care that you're taking business away from Bell.. lol

That is a good point! They should not care that you are taking business away from one of their major competitors.

Last week a Videotron spokesman made a comment about Vonage. Videotron is a Quebecor company, and is all over the province of Quebec. It is the biggest Cable TV and internet supplier in Quebec with millions of customers. Their head office is in Montreal. The statement they made was that Vonage was like a parasite on their system. They use up bandwidth, and do not have to pay for lines or communications. Videotron just started offering Voip themselves. What Videotron fails to realize is the number of new customers they are obtaining because of Vonage! Many people might switch to Videotron high speed because they want Vonage as their phone service provider. Bell had some stupid rule that in order to have high speed internet with them, you also had to buy telephone service from them. This would force people to leave Bell high speed totally, and switch to Videotron. Videotron could be picking up business, specifically because of Vonage. So in a sense, Vonage is not a parasite - it could be viewed as a selling tool for Videotron.

On the down side of things, I did read in the paper that Bell is going to start offering naked DSL soon due to the Voip competition that is now in Canada. Voip has REALLY affected a lot of companies and how they are doing business. It is serious stuff. Hurray!

I live 600 km north of Montreal. Our local cable co is own by Bell so either Cable and sympatico is the same provider.

I'm still waiting for Starchoice high speed internet because ours is to slow. 1Mbps here and 5.1 Mbps in Montreal.

Idea If I want to open up our local market as an afiliated business with Vonage Canada. Can this be done? Get local phones #and offer subs here? Any comments about that? Question

I'm really interested in that service. I heard Videotron's Voip is very expensive. That will change very soon and I guess all Cableco will try to block Vonage to permit the Cableco's Voip.

I don't know about the Vonage business affiliate thing. You might want to contact Vonage directly with that question.

As far as the cable companies blocking Vonage traffic - that would not be legal. There was a company in the US that tried that already, and Vonage took them to court and they were ordered to pay Vonage $15,000 US as a first fine.
