I'd like to have my number available when someone searches directory listings and/or calls 411. However, since leaving my POTS QWEST apparently my directory lsiting gets wiped. However, I read in an earlier thread that Vonage customers CAN get their info back into directory listings (couldn't find the thread otherwise I'd post). Anyway, I wrote to QWEST to request my info be added to directory listings and here's the reply I received:
Dear Jerry,
They [Vonage] are incorrect. When you left Qwest your Service provider places the directory listing back through Qwest. You will not be able to place a directory listing with Qwest as you have taken your line business away from them. The only way is if your provider does this for you.
If you have AT&T for instance they have a contact department with Qwest they contact with the listing information for 411 and white pages.
Dex Media is not responsible for this nor controls what is in 411 or White pages so Vonage is incorrect. You need to go back to them and explain this to them. If they still say they cannot do this then you will need to Call Qwest and place a paid foreign listing (not a free listing) you would pay for the yellow Pages listing as well.
Also if you had switched your land line to a Cell number then you would lose the white pages listing and the yellow pages listing.
Thanks again for contacting Dex Media.
Thank You,
Julie Hession

So, now what should I do? Anyone have any advice?
Thanks much!!

On the LNP form there's an option to keep your existing directory listing with address and phone number, keep it with just phone number or to have it removed. Other than porting to Vonage and choosing one of the options to keep your listing, I don't know of a way to get a listing. Vonage doesn't provide it, that's for sure. |

I'm not sure how to say it any differently. Maybe I am missing your question? |

Currently, when you request to move your number to Vonage, you must fill out a "Local Number Portability" (LNP) form. There are options on that form that allow your number to continue to be listed with the local phone company in the phone book and directory assistance. |

OK that's what I thought. I tried to transfer my number--but QWEST said they released it and Vonage said they didn't get the release orders - so it was going to be another week or so -after waiting a month - to "look into" it. So I decided just to get a new # from Vonage. I wish I'd been able to transfer my old number. Is it still possible to do? Can I go back and try to get it re-transferred?? |

Vonage got my LOA and QWEST received it. However, QWEST turned offf my phone service and Vonage said they never got the number ported from QWEST. So Vonage told me to call QWEST and ask for the release order # and I did. I called Vonage back and they were clueless as what to do. I had no phone service so I just asked the guy "Would it be faster if Vonage just gave me a new #?" And the rep said "Yeah it would - sometimes the phone companies drag their feet releasing a number, yada yada yada."
I still wish I could have kept my old # tho....damn |
