So I got the e-mail notice yesterday saying my number had been transferred from qwest. When I try to call that number, I get a message saying my number has been disconnected or is not in the correct area code.

I found that the number has been transferred to focal by using an ATT LNP web page which said focal now handles it. I called focal and everything looks fine. Here's where it really get's strange.

My POTs line is still active but can't receive incoming phone calls. My Vonage line works but can only receive calls on the temporary number. However, if I call my old phone number from my Vonage line, I get the voice mail for my old phone number. How strange is that? Only my Vonage phone can get through to my old number! This sounds like I've entered LNP hell to say the least. I'll have to deal with Qwest, Focal and Vonage to find out who f***ed up.

I got through to Vonage after 30 minutes (unbelievable Vonage, 30 minutes???) and got a story about the transfer having to work it's way through the system and that it might take 24-48 hours (the focal guy didn't buy that). The customer service guy was very helpful but I get the feeling I was getting a line of BS regarding my number transfer.

I have little patience for companies who f up. Vonage has till Tuesday to make this right or Comcast is getting my phone business. I'm already tired of automated e-mail responses that do nothing to help me and to being on hold for an eternity (Hey Vonage, just what is an acceptable wait to you?). Vonage better get its act together. Lots of other competitors are entering Voip. And they don't have a very high hurdle to surpass vonage's customer service.

When my qwest line was ported it took 2 days for qwest to finally get done with their hook up. Just give it a day or two and I think you will be OK.

Success. Must have been Qwest dragging their feet. I'm officially a Vonage user! For other Qwest users doing LNP, it does take 48 hours for Qwest to activate everything.
