I got my router 3 days ago and it works just fine. During the morning, during the after noon, and even during the night. I live in Sterling Virginia about 30 miles away from D.C. I have Adelphia High Speed internet. My high speed runs from 350K to 550K, I think Vonage works best in metropolitan areas where the high speed is more reliable. Vonage IS GREAT, everyone else needs to stop complaining and call there local ISP with the problems! Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Mike, I, too, live in the DC metro area, and I've also been lucky enough to have no problems with my Vonage service since I began its use last December. However, to say that all the problems that folks on this forum are experiencing are attributable to their ISPs is a rather unfair oversimplification. With Voip there are a number of devices, utilzing new technologies, that have to work together, and any "weak link" in the chain is probably going to bring it all down.

I'm sure there are many other folks like us who have been lucky enough to have moved to Voip with no problems. Those folks, however, don't come here because they have no need. It's those who have problems and are trying to find solutions who post here. Telling them all to move to a metropolitan area, however, is of no help, at all.

I wasn't saying that they should move to where we are at, I just meant that should try to deal more directly with there connection issues rather then blaming Vonage for all their V.O.I.P problems. There are a lot of poor ISP out there and I know how it is to live in an under developed area. 5 years ago VA was that way, may problems with the high speed. We have too many people in VA as it is, please don't anyone else move here.

I agree that the vast majority of issues are with the ISP's. I live in Atlanta and my Vonage has worked absolutely perfectly since the first day I plugged it in.

I just think too many people don't have the technical skills to make it work if left to the devices of a bad ISP. They want to treat it like a toaster you take home and plug in. Ideally, it does work that way for many, many people. The others with trouble don't have much hope for help from Vonage right now.

I get tired of all the crying myself but I'd rather try to help them than see them turned off by the next generation of communications that you and I have been able to take advantage of. I'm thrilled with Vonage. Best $16 I've spent each month!

My ISP didn't send me a defective router, or kill customers' adapters with a firmware update, or go down for hours three days in a row last week, either. And my ISP answers their support line in under an hour.

Maybe you should use it for more than 3 days before you start giving lectures.

I do not mind helping people who truly need the help. My service so far has been great. The only time I had a problem was when my ISP went down for like 10-30. I live here in Central TX on a military installation where Road Runner is a choice of service...the only choice for cable internet. I refuse to use DSL since while in Germany had bad experience with getting kicked off the net more than frequently on DSL. I have a home network so I did was plug my LINKSYS RT31P2 to the back of my MS base station and have had service now for 6 weeks. IMO people should explain their setups when addressing their problems so people can assist them. That way those who are more high techy than others can help.

Well I recommend you contact comcast, I used them before and they have a lot of outages, it's great that their response time to phone calls is shorter due to their small customer base. Firmware is a essential part to keeping everyone with updated software, Pentium 4 processors are recommended over any celeron and atleast 1.2GHZ speed. Make sure you have all of these things to get your V.O.I.P. to run at it's best (Soft Phone).

All my PCs are P4 with over 1.8GHZ...except for one we built just to see a difference which is an AMD 2.6GHZ. I hate that PC...because it always locks up so I only use it for other purposes other than the net. My main PC is 2.4GHZ P4 and here soon I will be adding more memory since I have 512MB Ram. But what does processor speed and brand have to do with Voip anyway? Please explain...I am sure others would want to know.
