Let me put the thought that if you live in the rural areas Vonage isn't reliable to rest. I live in coastal- rural eastern NC and have eastern carolina roadrunner as my ISP.for the past 5 years. The service is extremely reliable as is Vonage. I signed up with Vonage the beginning of February, recieved the RT31P2 in a few days, plugged it in and have had reliable service since then. I call Germany regularly and the voice quality is excellent. I'm sold on Vonage, I just wish that they had the ability to give me a phone number in this area so I could get rid of Sprint completely.

It just depends on where you are at for the best high speed.

BellSouth, Comcast and Cox were all top finishers, but #1 for customer satisfaction is Comcast, which was stated in the first two paragraphs of the article you provided. Also humorous is the fact that it says Comcast is the largest broadband provider in the United States, which flies in the face of your "small customer base" comment earlier. You must not have even read it, so here it is:

Quote:
SupportSoft, a provider of Real-Time Service Management (RTSM(TM)) software, announced that a number of its broadband service provider customers topped industry rankings in a round-up of recently reported independent research. Accounting for 10.8 million(1) broadband subscribers nationwide, BellSouth, Comcast and Cox Communications received the highest marks in studies measuring customer satisfaction ratings for high speed data services.

Comcast, the largest broadband service provider in the United States, led the international Customer Respect Index (CRI)(2) for telecommunications this year; the index is produced by The Customer Respect Group, a research firm that focuses on how corporations treat their customers online. The CRI, which is used as a standard benchmark for online customer care within Fortune 1000 companies and measures responses to online customer queries, reported that Comcast achieved the highest and most improved ratings for online customer service, topping the overall CRI table. Comcast also had the best score in the responsiveness index, and topped the list for telecommunications providers.

I am going to assume you are speaking to me.

Myself, along with oh, I would guess..., hmm, no numbers, I might get quoted; but a vast majority of Vonage customers never do have an issue.

Yes, this is my forum, But it is your forum also. It is wide open for topics with very few rules.

I have never had an issue with problems being discussed, that is the back-bone of the content. I only have a problem with posters that wish to "Bash-N-Dash" and do not want help.

Yeah I know. It's just so frustrating to have threads like this one ("It Works For Me, Stop Complaining People!") that is like salt in the wound for some of us. As if the rest of us must be technically incompetent or imagining things. I am tempted to bail on Vonage already, and threads like this one--or even worse, posts with that sentiment that appear in the middle of a support thread--just push me that much closer to giving up altogether.

By the way, Vonage missed my LNP again Wednesday, and that's the third time a transfer data has come and gone. Every time that happens I keep thinking maybe it's a blessing in disguise.

Well clearly you must have misunderstood me. If you read the third paragraph on that link, it states "BellSouth rated the highest on all of the Yankee Group's individual satisfaction dimensions, and Cox Communications rated the highest on overall satisfaction." (Overall satisfaction) I read that article prior to posting it.

I guess you got me. "In seperate research..." (which you left out of your quote) was where I quit reading.

It's always good to admit that you're wrong. I hope for one day that your Vonage is working up to your expectations. You always have the option to switch ISP. Vonage is still working great for me now 4 days strong Exclamation

Well perhaps in Tennessee that is the only high speed service provider, therefore it might have a slightly larger customer base in that particular area. I know that here in Virginia they aren't the favored company.

If I may digress off-topic for a moment...

Every State served by Comcast has their share of haters. In the AT&T BI days, I hated them. In Georgia, Comcast bought up, cleaned up and jazzed up the service to amazing levels. They have call centers in this country, in our city, with live people taking calls. In my area, if you call in a trouble on HSI, it notifies you if there is already trouble reported in your area before you hold on for tech support. (By the way, their voice response unit receives my real number from Vonage too.) I like them a lot.

I honestly believe Comcast is a great provider to use with Vonage or any Voip service with because they are optimizing their own network (regardless of VLANs and such) to carry their own Voip service.

I had horror stories with BellSouth DSL when the DSLAM was in my own back yard and they couldn't keep my connection running. Plus, BellSouth personnel were about as helpful as listening to the hold music for Vonage. I have never understood HOW Bellsouth gets tops customer service awards. It sure isn't for Bellsouth.Net internet service.

As to the rural aspects, I have a a cabin in the mountains of Western North Carolina served by a tiny cable company which has only one T1 (1.544 Mbs) connecting it to the internet. My Vonage works flawlessly up there as well. In fact, for whatever reason, my Vonage works better up there than Voicepulse or Broadvoice. The cable service up there is rock solid as well.

To return to topic....

I suspect that ToddlerTN has had the "perfect storm" of things going wrong with his Vonage equipment and their deployment of his service. I doubt his Comcast cable service is part of it. He has been far more patient than I would have been. After a day or so, I'd have sent it packing and made a note to come back later when Voip is fully cooked. Fortunately for me, the gods of Voip made mine work the first time, the second time when I added another adapter and the third time two weeks ago when I got them to send me two new RT31P2 units to replace my old Cisco ATA's. I'm still pleased with Vonage but not unsympathetic to the others who have trouble.

As I said before, the best thing for us who have service that works is to try to help those who don't since Vonage customer service is virtually unavailable. That's the whole idea of a forum and I hope we can all continue the spirit of it.

There is certainly no need to get testy or bait each other.

Well, I guess I have to join what appears to be a clear minority of people who have had no problems with Vonage. Like some of the other members, I call Germany with no problems, I fax with no problems, and (following the rules to the exact word) I installed my RT31P2 with no problems.

A visiting friend was discussing Vonage with me because he is interested in getting an account for his business. I first had him review the information on the Vonage web site and then had him look at the dialogue on this web site. I didn’t want to present Vonage as a problem-free solution. I told him that, in my opinion, Vonage was growing so quickly that their Customer Service Department couldn’t keep up with the rapid growth. He told me that a lagging customer service capability was understandable; that’s the normal growth pattern for most companies.

Frankly, I thought he would reject Voip. But, he said the Vonage business account offers everything that he needs to run his business from two different geographical locations – New England and Florida. He further said that he currently had to duplicate all of his communications connections (multiple POTS lines and cable connections) at both ends and deal with call-forwarding. With Vonage, he can simply disconnect the router and laptop and reconnect at the new location—thereby eliminating the need for landlines. (He uses one laptop with docking stations at each location for the Internet.)

Personally, I think Vonage is like any other emerging technology. It’s going to take a little time to perfect it. If you want to be among the early users, it’s like we used to say in the Army: “You want it bad, you get it bad!”
Very Happy
