My ISP didn't send me a defective router, or kill customers' adapters with a firmware update, or go down for hours three days in a row last week, either. And my ISP answers their support line in under an hour.

Maybe you should use it for more than 3 days before you start giving lectures.

Three YEARS ago today I made my last POTs call and have never looked back. Smile

Woohoo...that is a long time and when we move to Fayetteville this summer permanently I hope I can say the same thing. Because I am tired of paying high prices for a local line...now I can make any and all calls with the same features (give or take a couple features for now) for half the price of local phone service with a landline company.

Yea you don't actually need to have your pc on while using the V.O.I.P.I was referring to the soft phone, another great product that Vonage offers.

So either accept Vonage as it is, no "complaining" allowed, or go back to POTS?

I don't think that's valid. I think MOST people who are so-called "complaining" here sincerely want Vonage to work or else they wouldn't be here. I know I do.

The third option is work with Vonage or even pressure them if necessary to get issues resolved.

It would have been easy to plug in the adapter they sent me and just give up when it wasn't working. But then guys who do that get criticized here, don't they? You always tell them they should have given Vonage a chance, and I agree.

But the flip side to that is folks who have been through the ringer with Vonage, and what do you guys do? You belittle them, tell them they must not be technical enough to deal with issues, and if they can't handle it then "stop complaining and go back to POTS."

Kind of feels like "damned if you do, damned if you don't."

For two months, I've been trying to get my Vonage service to perform as flawlessly as it supposedly does for you or kenn10 or MikemmVA. I've spend untold hours on the phone with Vonage, days running Ping Plotter (hoping to be able to blame my ISP, to no avail), exchanging bad routers, having techs tweak the settings on my adapter, even buying expensive new phones and none of it gives me consistent results. For a few days things work great, and then the issues are back. They can't even tell me what my QoS setting should be on the router they provided me. "Try 384, try 512, try 1024, try 90, try default" are all answers I've been given. Vonage doesn't even know what it should be, and I always get the impression that whoever I happen to finally get on their support line is just "trying something" and grasping at straws.

I'm glad you've never looked back or that some people haven't experienced the hardships that others have. And this is your forum, of course, and if you don't want problems discussed here then you can do as you please.

But I just don't think it's fair or cool to imply that people with issues must somehow be at fault, or that customers don't have the right to expect better from Vonage.

If Vonage just can't meet my needs, obviously I'll move on. But Vonage claims that they can, so I expect Vonage to resolve them, and I'm still willing to give them that chance.

Well I recommend you contact comcast, I used them before and they have a lot of outages, it's great that their response time to phone calls is shorter due to their small customer base.

None of that makes sense to me. Small customer base? Comcast is huge, what are you talking about? Their response time is fast because they have dozens of CSRs in multiple call centers around the country. And outages? I've been with them since the demise of @Home and I could count on one hand the number of times they've had an unscheduled outage in my area. Nobody's perfect, but Comcast sure has met all of my expectations so far.

Well perhaps in Tennessee that is the only high speed service provider, therefore it might have a slightly larger customer base in that particular area. I know that here in Virginia they aren't the favored company.

Not sure what everyone uses for net connection DSL or Cable. My guess maybe Cable net is better for Voip calls than DSL or Satellite.

That is something to look into.

I do understand that in some locations in each state Cable net is not an option for people.

what stats do you have that says "they aren't the favored company"? or is that just your guess because you and your family/friends don't use them?

Comcast Cable
Leading cable and broadband communications provider serving more than 21 million customers in 35 states and the District of Columbia.

I am going to assume you are speaking to me.

Myself, along with oh, I would guess..., hmm, no numbers, I might get quoted; but a vast majority of Vonage customers never do have an issue.

Yes, this is my forum, But it is your forum also. It is wide open for topics with very few rules.

I have never had an issue with problems being discussed, that is the back-bone of the content. I only have a problem with posters that wish to "Bash-N-Dash" and do not want help.

I too have had very little issues with our service. I have never had a dropped call and others I know have had no issues either.
