Hi,

I am a newbie in Voip technology. I was hoping someone can help me with some questions.

I am looking for a PC to Phone setup.

However, there are some conditions, but i'm not sure if this is possible:
1) I would like to be able to grab certain information from the phone call from the computer (eg. call went through, call dropped, etc.). Does the eyeBeam SDK allow me to program my own software that allows me to do this? Basically almost developing my own softphone using, I suppose, the eyeBeam engine.

2) If number 1 is possible, how do I connect this software that I built to the a system that allows me to use the internet as a phone. Do I use Packet8, Lingo, Vonage? Would I need to get some sort of protocol from them to connect to their system?

3) Another question is, and I'm not sure if this is possible, I would like to make multiple calls from one PC (maybe open multiple softphones). Is this possible? Would I need multiple accounts. Can I use the eyeBeam SDK to do this?

any help would be greatly appreciated ..

thanks!!

I do not have experience specifically with eyeBeam SDK, however I would expect that you could capture this information. It is pretty standard logging information for SoftPhones.

This is a Vonage forum, I have already been correctly slapped down today for talking too much about other providers. You can use a SoftPhone if you get a Vonage account and add the SoftPhone option.

It sounds like you may need a business account with Vonage. Also, please not that the SoftPhone option does not contain unlimited minutes.

The protocol you would be using is called SIP.

The eyeBeam SoftPhone supports six simultaneous calls. I don't know how many simultaneous calls Vonage allows per account, but each account can only be registered on one SoftPhone at a time. The eyeBeam SoftPhone can be configured with 10 Vonage accounts (I believe).

Thanks for your reply. I called Vonage about these quetions, but they didn't know much (sales). That's why I posted.

As for the SIP protocol. I'm not sure how that works. Would I need to implement my own SIP server/network as well?

So If I implemented my own softphone using SIP protocol, which Vonage package do I need? And do I just tell them that i'm using my own softphone that I built and they will guide me through how to connect to their network?

"I don't know how many simultaneous calls Vonage allows per account"
So, it is POSSIBLE to make multiple simultaneous calls (to different people) with 1 account?

Thanks very much for your help! greately appreciated

I think I could answer your question better if I understood what you were trying to do.

Are you trying to make a number of independent simultaneous calls or are you trying to set up a conference call with all the parties. In the first case are how do you expect to talk with all of these people at once?

You probably don't need to build anything. Solutions for almost all of this are already available. On the software side there is Asterix. Vonage also supports SIP PBXs from epigy.

I'm trying to make a number of independent simultaneous calls. I will be using this to test out phones on the other end. By make calls to them automatically form my pc once every 1-2 min or something.

So when I said building, I meant building an automated software tool to make the calls. But I would also like to capture the response (like call busy, call hung up, etc.)

But, I don't know if this is even possible.

So, I can probably build the tool ... hopefully with using xten's engine....it's just a matter of being able to connect to Vonage after that...

It sounds like you are trying to find a way to exploit Vonage for telemarketing purposes... You wouldn't be traveling down that path, would you?

You may not do this with Vonage.

lol ... no i'm not doing telemarketing ... but while I was typing that last message ..it sure sounded like it.... lol ... i'm working for a company that builds phones and I need to be able to test the phone by making calls to it...as you can probably see...calling it every 1-2 min is tedious....lol ... so the most ideal situation would be to automate this....thanks for the insert ... .I guess this can't be done ....
