New user (after LNP transfer issues). Set up my voicemail according to the instructions (all you do is enable it from the website!). However, when I call, I get a pre-recorded message that says, "You may leave a message for the person you are calling by entering their mailbox number. . . or to access your mailbox, press #"

What is a mailbox number?

Also, my secure Vonage account website indicates I have no voicemail box found for my account. I went ahead and re-enabled voicemail.

Please advise how to fix. I see I am getting many calls when I'm out, but no messages are left, as I nor anyone else knows what a "mailbox number" is.

Your "mailbox number" is your 11 digit phone number 1+area code+number. However, if this is what the users get when they dial your number something is not right with your voicemail account. If someone doesn't come along with that answer I would call support.

Try this. If you are accessing voicemail for the first time, you should do it from the Vonage phone. *123 , then the default password 1234. it will then ask you to create a new password , Then it will ask you if you want to record your name and any greeting you may want. I'm guessing that accessing by phone for the first time is the key. Anyway ,I had that problem and this cleared it up for me

when a number transfers it essentially replaces your "temporary" virtual number. Which means that the number which youve had for the time of your transfer is no longer the mailbox number on your account. Usually when a number transfers theres about 24hrs of "transitional" time in which all these specifics get switched to the new primary number on your account. They usually get worked out , however if your seeing "no mailbox found" in your web acct, or getting "invalid mailbox number" when calling from your Vonage phone you should call customer care. (where you should try and get to the US technical support not the India one... choosing any of the Installation options from the voice prompted main menu all get your to their outsourced India installation department.)
