Evil or Very Mad
Okay sorry for the blank message!

We have been experiencing an outage in Mazatlan Mexico for the last 3 days solid affecting approximately 30 users who vacation in Mazatlan during the winter. Most of us use Telmex's Prodigy Infinitum ISP service via their DSL offering.

The symptoms are as follows:

1. The Vonage adapter looses its registration and the light starts blinking and goes through the registration cycle again and again. Rebooting the adapter and rebooting the DSL router has not helped.

2. Sometimes you can draw dialtone and dial and one of three things will happen:

a. You get a prolonged dead air and then fast busy.
b. The Called Party cannot hear you but you can hear them
c. The adapter drops registration as soon as you attempt to dial

I have tested upload speed and packet loss and all seems to be fine.

I have also reduced bandwidth all the way down.

Please help as many of us work remotely with our businesses while we are down here.

Is there any evidence that Telmex is engaging in port blocking and if so can change ports?

Thanks for any help

There are numerous posts today that Telmex's Infinitum appears to be blocking ports.

In one of the articles about the FCC fine for port blocking, it specifically mentioned that Vonage had changed customer port numbers to resolve the issue, however it is not something you could do yourself as far as I know.

Some services allow port 80 to be used to prevent ISPs from being able to block service based on port number.

I believe one of the Vonage guys also told someone here a few days ago that they could change the port if necessary.

Below are the results that I got; I stand corrected we are experiencing 6% loss at the time of the teset and some pretty high latencies. I guess this is probably the culprit. Someone more technically adept should jump in and help

Evil or Very Mad
This morning at 4:15am local time we got a call from a Vonage customer care rep checking to see if our Vonage was working! I appreciate the concern but 4:15am @#%%!
In any case is Vonage reps are monitoring this string, I was able to make one call around 7:45am. Most of the call was okay accept every now and then the called party complained of severe clipping. I then called a number that requires entering numbers into an IVR but the IVR system could not recognize input because of the severe clipping/distortion. Bottom line we are still out of service for all practical purposes. At this momemt my adapter is trying to register.

Help!!!!!

Just out of curiosity, does Vonage know you are in Mexico or do they think you are in a different Time Zone somewhere in the US?
