Dan, when I said Telmex ISP I'm referring to Infinitum. That's Telmex's DSL service. All of my clients use Infinitum and only 3 or 4 are having issues. If they were blocking ports, I would imagine they would block all of their users. I dont know, but it doesnt make sense to only block a few customers, but who knows, like you said it's Mexico. Viva Mexico!!! |

and you have Vonage set at 30? Correct? |
That is correct. Does Vonage use UDP port 5060?

You folks on the mainland of Mexico are not the only ones. There are at least a dozen folks I know in La Paz with Vonage service. On March 5th the problem began for us. Same as described in the first two posts. What's even stranger is that not only voice over ip is having problems, but net2phone and other pc based phones are not working. I don't think any ports are actually being blocked, but the upload speeds are being systematically tampered with by Prodigy so as to cause distortion for anyone listening to the other end of a Voip or pc phone call.
This is of course not a solution, but there is certainly a problem and I think that the marketplace is much bigger than what most think. I think those of us in Mexico are a giant bunch of Voip users and it would be nice to see that Vonage or some other Voip company could satisfy our needs.
I to have spoken with customer service at Vonage and nobody has been able to help me. Only suggest trying a new modem which cost me $99usd. I agree it would be nice to have a definitive answer that yes, we can be aided and one of vonage's engineers can find a solution to this OR tell us were screwed so we can stop paying monthly dues for a service that just doesn't work.
As for "Prodigy Infinitum"....I called them and was assured that they are not and do not block any ports and that this would be illegal. This is why I believe they are manipulating the upload speeds in some way.
Certainly if they can find a way to block access to Voip, there should be someone smart enough to find a way around it no????
At this point, I'll be a lost customer to Vonage and I think our group in Mexico is much larger than 30, 50, 100 etc...I think we are very certainly underestimated and there are likly thousands of Voip clients that create a huge growth sector in the Voip marketplace. |

I would like to ask Vonage to change the UDP ports utilized for our service in Mexico. It would be great if you tested with one customer (I will volunteer) to prove or disprove the fact that Telmex is blocking UDP ports 5060/5061.
Vonage needs to be responsive to customer issues or they will loose significant revenue and worse yet acquire bad word of mouth...which we all know is deadly to any business.
Dan: you or a Vonage engineer can contact me via a PM and I can give you the info needed to change service ports.
Thanks for the help |
