How about setting up a POLL for the most requested features and if possible on a scale of 1=most wanted 2=next most wanted etc. up to say around five.

Opinions?

I've seen this requested before, but I would like to request as well in case more frequently-asked features get implemented sooner. One thing I loved about my land line is the ability to have several sub-mailboxes on one phone line.

Many residential customers have a houseful of people, if not just themselves and their significant others. It would be extremely convenient for the caller to choose whose mailbox they wish to leave a message in.

If multiple people have their own sub-mailbox, when they check their own messages, others' messages' "new" status remains undisturbed.

Thanks.

How many of us have received calls from "Wireless Caller"? I saw this feature advertised on another Voip company's web site; I don't remember which company. The feature is to rename the preset names that are displayed on a Caller-ID display when someone calls.

The week I subscribed to Vonage was the same week I went down to Circuit City and purchased the Panasonic KX-TG5230 5.8GHz cordless phone.

After researching numerous other models and brands, I decided this was the one and only perfect phone for my household's needs. Among many other features, it has Talking Caller-ID, in which it attempts to read the Caller-ID name out loud.

This is a very convenient feature; while hunting around the house following the ringing to find an available handset, I can hear who's calling. This saves time because I don't have to actually find it and look at it to read who's calling.

In addition, if I'm occupied by some other task, my phone is essentially telling me who's calling from across the room, if not from another room, without me having to be interrupted in order to get close enough to read the display.

It must be programmed with a way to decipher spellings; I can't customize my own pronunciations, but most of the time, I don't need to. It does quite a decent job of "decoding" the name.

Enough about the phone. The issue here is that when I receive a call from "Wireless Caller", the phone tells says, "Call from...'Wireless Caller'". This does not help much, and I have to walk over to the phone and read the number to see who is calling.

In other instances, though the phone is good at pronouncing some names, it does butcher others. Finally, I would prefer to simply some names. I might not want my phone to say, "Call from...Doe, Jonathan." Instead, I might want it to say, "Call from...John."

If I can log into the web site and edit my "name list" under my account/feature settings, when someone calls, the system can look up the number to see if I have an alternate spelling defined in the list. If so, it would use that; otherwise, it would use the default provided over the wire.

I would love to have that "Caller ID renaming" feature as well. It's not only useful for the phone that reads the CID name to you, but also for just looking at the display. VoicePulse currently offers it. I'm not sure about other Voip providers.
You could change the display of some long names that get truncated ("Verylongname Pe" could become "Peter" or "Peter's cell" or whatever you like). Also, fellow Vonagers who have their number show up twice instead of the name could be customized. (instead of having to remember who is "503-555-1234" and who is "503-555-1342" I could customize them to "John" and "Melissa"). It could also be used to solve the nasty problem with the "\" or "¥" sneaking into names that are sent with a comma in them.
But I guess it will take Vonage at leat 10 years to implement this considering that they can't even figure out how to do simple ACR.

I'd like to see the Vonage call forwarding features allow numbers outside North America. Since I use this device in a country 14 hours different than the area code FWD to my local cell phone would be very useful.

The capability of using and ATA like Sipura 3000 would also be something I think I'd find useful since this device apparently can handle PSTN pass through. Configured correctly I hope to be able to call in on a local number, jump over and get the dial tone on a Voip line. Same coming in on Voip then jumping to a pre-configured local cell phone number.

http://www.sipura.com/products/spa3000.htm

I'll try this with VoicePulse in May but I'd prefer it be on Vonage.

UPDATE: 08-Aug-05 Added a Vonage SoftPhone account and setup the SPA-3000 for VoIP-PSTN FWDing from my local Thailand copperwire to my local Thai cell phone. US callers now call my Thai cellphone for $0.073 per call (not min). I can now also call local landline from any local cell or landline and get a new dial tone on my SoftPhone account (PSTN-VoIP). This allows me to call from my Bangkok office to US via Voip at my condo giving me great flexibility (14 hour time difference). This arrangement allows me access to my Voip line even though my company firewall will not allow.

I'd like to see scheduled voicemail settings.

Here's what I mean: During the day, I want the phone to ring, and have voicemail pick up after 20 seconds.

After, say, 10pm, up until maybe 7am, I want it to go immediately to voicemail and not ring and wake me up.

That'd be a neat feature, and something I've never seen available on a regular phone.

Here here !!
I just switched to Vonage as it was so much cheaper than my Verizon service and most of the stuff I paid extra for is free ... but I am really going to miss my distinctive ring service.

A 2nd virtual number is great ... but not much point if you can't have a separate voice mail or know it is for a 2nd person.
