There have been some strange goings on with Vonage for sure. Unexplained resets of my RT31P2 and an inability to access anything beyond the Vonage Home page.

There are just people out there who have too much time on their hands.

Are you sure about that? I'm in La Paz and I went to my cable provider the other week and just like they said one year ago.....internet is coming soon via cable, but it's not here yet.

I don't know about Cabo, but I can't imagine they have cable with itnernet at the moment. And if so....can you tell us WHO???? Or have you made the switch and can you verify exactly with whom you dealt and is your Voip phone working.
thanks

I have Comcast as my ISP. I'm not sure if they're blocking Voip or not. I haven't been able to receive or make any calls from my Vonage number since shortly after midnight.

I've used Vonage in Denver for 2 years now. My ISP was Mile High Online, using their high speed wireless internet connection (1.5mbps/512k), and now I'm on Comcast cable 3mbps/256k. It has worked great for me!

Fortunately for Comcast customers, they're upgrading their network speeds for residential customers in most markets at no additional cost. We're soon to be 4mbps/384k. I will probably upgrade for another $10/month and get their new 6mbps/768k package. Smile

Here goes my sig test...

Telmex is definitely playing games with Voip, not limited to Vonage. Other Voip computer apps are affected as well. The primary symptom in my user community is no audio out, although crystalvoice has some fix that corrected at least one user, and I have reports that dialpad has continued to work with no problems.

Robert X. Cringley has something to say at

on this that might shine some light on what is going on...

Yes!! Prodigy/Telmex is selectively disrupting Voip communications. I say selectively because a friend of mine is an accountant at Aerocalifornia and they have been using Voip for about a year and a half now to speak with their offices in Los Angeles.
I asked her yesterday if they were having problems with their Voip telephones....and she said ABSOLUTELY NOT. She in fact answers and calls using the Voip phone daily to get updates in LA. So why don't they have any problems?? She doesn't know. But she mentioned mabye they might have a deal with Carlos Slim of Telmex. But she's really not sure.
But that bugs the hell out of me....that the big company can have it and the little guy gets kicked in the shin again.
........
Anyway, some things will never change, but any more alternatives would be welcomed. Thanks for the article posted by Elgourdo...I'll have a look at that new system.

The argument used by those who are restricting non-native packages is similar to the use of dual speed limits on roads. You will be able to travel at 70 MPH if you are a citizen of that state, using their roads. If not, then your max speed is a rigidly-enforced 55 MPH.

Like it or not, the Internet, and broadband in particular, will need to be regulated eventually. To see the reason why, you need to reread your high school history books.

The big guys are doing what Standard Oil and other monopolies once did: They rigged prices so that people had to play by their rules or go without.

As crazy as it sounds for a conservative to say, action from Washington is the only, and needed answer. In order for deregulation to work, there needs to be a level playing field.

Otherwise, we will end up with a a Microsoft-type of monopoly on Voip. That is because while macs are a superior, more stable OS, they much fewer applications that can run on them. Therefore, 95% of computers users are forced to have a windows-type of OS.
(Analogy, not a debate starter)

Therefore we must let our politicians know about the issue. More to come in another post...
