Yes, I believe the 50k or 90k codec refers to the bandsaver. I received an email from Troy at Vonege tech support indicating that they have moved my ATA to a differant proxy server. He also gave me the correct ports to forward on my Linksys router for the ATA. I'll wait and see what happens.

the tier 3 guys are back to saying it's got to be something in our house. I don't think so. We've tried 400 types of phones. We don't even have an alarm system. Randy and I have tried every way we can think of to find even ONE thing we have in common. I'm worried that they'll chalk it up to a problem in our house when I really, really don't think that's where it is. We never had anybody say anything about a beep on an incoming call until 10/21 or 22. It was after our regular number was ported over, of course, and all our calls were coming in through Vonage. I think that's a minority position -- most of the users are still either keeping their "real" numbers with other providers and using it only for outgoing or forwarding for regular POTS to Vonage. when more people port over 100% like us, I think there will be more problems. I don't mind being a guinea pig at ALL. I just don't want tier 3 to decide it's "in my house" if they can't find anything else to attribute the problem to.

I doubt very seriously if it has anything to do with your house. I've got the problem and I'm using a multi phone cordless system. The cordless base is plugged directly into the ATA. It doesn't happen on every call, only once in a while. I've heard it when calling by both land line and cellular. I called our Vonage line this morning from a cell phone and heard the beeping once again. I'm going back to tech support.

Abiy in tier 3 is trying to work on this problem. if Uncle floyd, Old Phone Guy and anybody else who's having the problem can private post me with your phone number and contact information, I'll pass it along to Abiy and he can try to figure out with the rest of Tier 3 support what's going on. they can't find out what Randy Sax and I have in common at all. maybe by adding more people to the equation they can.

thanks!

I am having this problem too!!! I just emailed service@vonage.com with my problem and decided to scour the internet to see if this is a known problem with a known fix... I guess not.

Any new revelations since the Nov. 8 posting?

I have been dealing with Rob B. for about 3 weeks now on the beeping issue. Here is the latest e-mail that he sent me. Note that I am using the 5.8GHZ Vtech Cordless expansion telephone set.

In working with Cisco, we have determined that specific frequencies sent through the ATA can trigger the ATA to send the tone as if a touch- tone button was pressed. The latest firmware should minimize this, but it is impossible to completely eliminate this. I have gone ahead and upgraded you to the latest firmware.

It may be minimized more by trying a different phones. A different phone may not accentuate certain frequencies as much as the one in use now.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,
Rob B.

That's consistent with what's going on here. Now we occassionally get beeps on our end -- something we didn't before. Rob has offered to switch us to the Motorola MTA, but I wanted to wait until folks were more stable. Beeping is really annoying, but we don't lose connections, etc., like some of the others have reported. Once there's a very stable situation with the Moto, we will probably go ahead and make the switch. Just didn't want to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire. Other than the beeping, our Vonage is flawless and we cut the cord, literally with BellSouth on 10/14/02 so that's a pretty good long time now.

I too have this problem. We're using it in the office (three lines) and it is very annoying to have to say sorry to clients for a phone system that isn't working correctly.

Why can't this be elminiated entirely? I don't understand.

I really want Vonage to work for us, but this is unacceptable.

Found something on the DSL reports board and it seems to be on point. It says it has to do with DTFM, I think it was? Here's a link. The beeping is now on our end -- we hear it. I don't know if they do or not. Only now and then and especially if somebody laughs (females). Nobody complains to me about it on their end anymore. We switched from the cisco to the moto to try to eliminate it, so I don't know if it did stop it on the other side of the conversation or not. I'll have to ask my partner. she always heard it when we talked.

I guess we have to wait for new firmware to fix this Sad
