Well, I finally committed.. I found that Vonage gives call quality that is so close to POTS, the people I'm talking to don't know the difference. So I put in my LNP Transfer order on March 4th... And it was completed today! 15-20 business days, huh?!
March 4, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received March 4, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier March 7, 2005 Carrier Approved Transfer March 9, 2005 Completed LNP Transfer |

Consider yourself fortunate. I have a friend who's been waiting for 8 weeks with no transfer yet. |

Can I have my current POTS number ported over after I initially sign up with Vonage? Or do I have to decide to do that at the time I sign up with Vonage? |

You can do it later and I recommend you do it that way. You don't want your number stuck in a a port-over if you find Vonage to be unstable or unusable with your broadband connection.
One way to do it is to order it with a number port at the same time but not fax in the paperwork until you are comfortable with the service. They cannot port your number without the required paperwork. |

So who's holding it up? I'm assuming the carrier.. Tere's no excuse for them to hold it up for 8 weeks, except they want you to keep paying your phone bill while they lallygag..

Yeah, that's what I did.. I ordered the service back in December, but I didn't fax in the LOA till I knew it was good.. |

Ahhh, didn't realize there was paperwork, but this is definately what I'd do. Thanks for the quick response! |
