I have come to the conclusion that there are some issues that need to be addressed with Vonage. But figuring them out is part of the fun. Even Alexander Grahm Bell had some snap crackle pops when he started out. I was wondering if there might be a few who might be willing to share their success story settings. Especially as I am in need of some tips. My first step will be a call to my cable company to see if we can get some reliable upload speeds. My QOS is a 512, though I wouldn't think it would need to be that high. In any case, like most computer tech issues, the fun is successfully figuring things out. And thanks for a great forum.

This Configuration allows the RT31P2 to prioritize your Voip data:
DSL Modem -> RT31P2 -> Wireless Router -> works best for me

This Configuration gives mixed results, some people complain that this works better as they don't like the results of using the RT31P2 as their main router:
DSL Modem -> Wireless Router -> RT31P2 (on a LAN port) -> worked okay, but had some mild, intermitant voice quality issues

I followed the following instructions to the letter:

http://www.vonage.com/help_knowledgeBase_article.php?category=45&article=61

and it's worked flawlessly from day 1. I do seem to have some unrelated download speed issues with my ISP, but it doesn't seem to affect my phone call quality/service at all.

Hope this helps.

I can see everyone racing to respond with their winning combinations. It shows the difficulty we face with this relatively new technology. I guess what I was asking is if anyone has an optimum setting they have found for their router that would give them all they could get from their ISP. I guess baseline settings would be a more appropiate way to put it. Thank you to those that have responded.

Toshiba PCX1100 cable modem (dont laugh, I have had this since I first got broadband over 4+ years ago)->WRT54G->RT31P2(static ip, remote admin turned on).

I have thought about upgrading the WRT54G to the sveasoft firmware, but have yet to due. Not sure what are all the benefits are.

Well here are my results from the speed test.
My Results
Download 1,148,168 bps
Upload 740,920 bps
QOS 16%
RTT 65 ms
MaxPause 1032 ms

From what I've read, the maxpause rate is terrible, QOS is definately nothing to brag about either. Nothings ever easy. Death before dishonor though. More to come as I figure this out.
