Hi, I just received my new RT31P2 from Vonage and was able to make 2 phone calls - what a nice technology! After the second call I wasen't getting a dial tone therefore I did a reset and since then the power light just keeps flashing rapidly... not getting an IP either (both LAN & WAN) - All web params are at defaults and reset didn't do it either. I called Linksys (spent 1h with support) since I am unable to reach Vonage (says the number is not in service) - tried 1VONAGEHELP and soon as you choose support the line goes busy... not good. Linksys claims the router is dead.

I am really disappointed at this point and I am wondering how I can ship this router back to get a replacement. I was really impressed with the 2 calls I was able to make... but my fun has been short.

Please help!
Thanks in advance.

Well I finally got through and was able to speak with tech support who advised me I actually unplugged the router at a very inopportune moment... I guess within the 2 second window during the initial firmware upgrade. This is a feature built within the Vonage firmware - nice but risky if you ask me.

Anyway, just thought I would advise everyone - could save other lives...

So what is the solution if this occurs? I think i might have done
this to my new linksys box.

Yes for some strange reason that's unexplained the Customer Care phone number works only on rare occasions for me. I tried reaching that number [1 877 272 0528] a number of times over the past 5 days and succeeded getting through twice .... on each [there have been many] failed attempt to reach Vonage Customer Care an auto response Operator would state "the number is not in service".

I for one would like to know why this is happening. I did ask the Customer Care person why -- but they simply avoided answering this question which I did find surprising.

I would have asked them the question again. If they did not answer me a second time, I would ask that person for their name, then I would have asked them for the name of their supervisor and to be patched through to their supervisor.

You have a right to complain to the person you are speaking to on the phone. They are sitting there just like you and me, and this is their job.

Alternatively you could hang up and call back if you get a real doorknob on the phone.

Say DarKev, I like your style
BTW, I got my phone adapter yesterday a Linksys RT31P2 Device -- however I am disappointed due to 2 issues:
[1] The form factor of the Linksys RT31P2 -- I do not have enough desk space to accommodate the RT31P2 and my existing Router a Belkin F5D8230-4. The Linksys requires that I lay it flat on my desk and what I need to do is to have it stand [mount] Vertically.
[2] Since I already have a Router with QoS capability -- I do not need to have yet another Router [and I though I had made that clear to the person talking my order] -- all I need is a Phone adapter like the Linksys PAP2 a stand-alone phone adapter which can be mounted vertically taking up 60% less desk space.

Anyway I called Customer Care, it took 4 attempts [3 times I got "the number is not in service"] -- I explained the 2 points above to the CC person and he transferred me to the Technical Support dept. suggesting that they would resolve my issues -- I was on hold for 18 minutes when I decided that I would hang up and try communicating via email. I sent in the email with the information above re the 2 issues requesting that Vonage exchange the phone adapter. I did get an auto response email that provided some generic info not related to my request.

On Tuesday, March 08 I also sent Vonage sales a email that expressed concern re the CC phone access re "the number is not in service" and I have yet to hear back from them.

All in all I have to say that up to this point my customer satisfaction rating for the quality of Customer Care is poor. You would thing that Customer Care would be the number 1 priority for a company like Vonage.

I agree with you. I have had trouble getting through to them myself. I had 3 friends join recently, and they have also had problems. Not only did they have problems getting through to Vonage, but the person on the other end of the phone did not know things that they probably should know.

I understand that they have recently hired new people. Perhaps this is the problem. I would like to give them the benefit of a doubt.

The solution? Well, there isn't really one... unfortunately - I mean the router is simply dead. If you call Vonage they should replace it for free if you are within the first 30 days as this is the warranty given with the device - not sure if they would replace it for free after that.

In my case, I had to pay 151$ CAN to get another one shipped to me by Vonage - still waiting for them to credit my account.

Dan.
